My healthy dog ate my other dog's kidney food. Should I worry?

Aww, they are a pretty adorable pair! The short answer is, 'yes," that is fine. This will not harm your other dog to be on long term as well. The longer answer is that if he is a working dog, or is a very athletic dog (regularly goes for 3+mile runs, does agility, etc) then a less protein restricted maintenance diet would be better for him. K/D is quite a restricted diet and is not recommended for healthy dogs which are still growing or breeding. It is ok for the other dog to snack on some but I would recommend feeding separately for the main meal to ensure they both get a chance to eat the correct food and the dog with kidney disease is eating primarily k/d

Feline diets are not appropriate for dogs, you should not give this food to her, I strongly recommend buying the dog kidney diet and just give the cat diet away or feed it to strays, if you have any in your area of living.

I recommend to call the makers of the renal support. They will be able to give you the best information about any potential overdose issues. Depending on the amount of potassium potentially in the supplement, this could create too much potassium in your dog’s system and this could be detrimental to his heart (and even fatal). The pet poison control hotline may also be another good resource. Start making your phone calls quickly so that vomiting can be induced if needed. I hope this helps and that your pup does well.

Hello. I would feed Chutki at least a little because an empty stomach can be more apt to continue to cause nausea. Kidney disease can result in nausea, but so can a lot of things. The most reliable way to identify if there is any problem with the kidneys, we would need to do some blood work looking specifically at blood urea nitrogen, creatinine & phosphorous levels. A newer enzyme assay called SDMA has been very helpful in identifying very early cases of kidney failure. Plain boiled chicken with no fat and no seasonings is safe to add to her diet to encourage her appetite. You can also use very lean ground beef with no salt or seasonings that is drained of grease and fat.
