My German Shepherd puppy. Is 8°C too cold for his medium coat?

As long as the doghouse is heavily insulated and she has thick bedding inside, and the door isn't open to where the wind blows in, it should be fine. If a dog is cold, they will shiver and may be more lethargic than usual. German Shepherds have a thick coat, but the lowest temperature I wouldn’t leave a dog outside is below 45F. I hope this helps.

If you are talking about 40 degrees F°, that is definitively too cold for them as puppies cannot regulate their normal temperature for the first few weeks of life. Unfortunately (for the house) they should stay inside. Good question. That temperature is much too cold for a dog to be in for long periods of time. I would recommend keeping them indoors. Dogs can typically tolerate temperatures almost equivalent to us, but just 5 degrees greater or lower in most situations. Even still, there is individual variance. In reality if Teddy likes the snow and he is comfortable outside you do not necessarily need the booties and coat unless you are staying for an extended amount of time (over 20-30 minutes). You can start using it when it is under 40 degrees Fahrenheit. It really depends on Teddy and what he tolerates. For my dogs I usually do it when it is under 20 degrees Fahrenheit based on what they tolerate specifically. Good luck!

Hello, the Australian Shepherd dog is actually a herding working breed. It is not recognized as an arctic breed such as a Huskie. Therefore Aussies cold tolerance is not as good as an arctic breed. In general, if it is too cold outside for you, then its too cold outside for your dog. Their thick coat will help keep them warm some, however, it would not be ideal to keep your dog outside in 32 degree weather as this is close to freezing. Hope this helps and best of luck.

It is normal for a dog's nose to be moist and cold. I would be more worried if the nose was warm or hot and dry. A German Shepherd dog does not need a dog coat, it is better to let him go out without a coat.
