Is a cold nose normal for my dog in winter? Should he wear a coat?

A dog's nose can go from wet to dry just by laying in the sun or near a heat source. Two signs that a dog isn't feeling well is a decrease or lack of appetite, and lethargy. I hope this helps!

A dog's nose should be cold and wet/moist. This would be normal. The clingy behavior may not be normal and he may not be feeling well. If this continues through tomorrow, I suggest you take him to your veterinarian tomorrow for an exam. In the meantime monitor his feed and water intake and eliminiation (diarrhea or not, what color poop, consistency, etc, urination).

I think this sounds normal. As long as Oreo is not sneezing and does not have any nasal discharge I think he is just fine. Whether or not the nose being cold, wet or dry being an indication of illness is an old wives tale. As long as he is acting normally I would not worry about it. The temperature of a dog's nose is not really a good indicator of health. If he is behaving well, eating , and playful then everything is probably fine. If you are worried that he could have a fever, then you could measure his body temperature with a rectal thermometer. The normal temperature of a dog is 100 - 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is probably nothing to worry about. It is normal for Missy to have a warm, wet nose (dry and cool is also normal). I would monitor for coughing, lethargy, and loss of appetite but would not change anything at this time.

Yes, it is normal for them to breathe fast, twitch and even vocalize in their sleep. As long as he is normal when awake there is no concern. The nose can normally have a little watery discharge from time to time. If he starts to sneeze frequently or has mucous discharge, then this would indicate a problem like infection or allergies.
