My Frenchie has bloody stool, active, but parvo tests conflict?

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 7 lbs

Hi! My Frenchie, Gordo, has been having some fairly loose stool with some blood and mucus. I had taken him to the vet and he tested positive for parvo. I wanted a 2nd opinion and I took him to another vet and they ran the same test and he came back negative. He is very active, constantly playing and is eating normally. The second vet had said that he had a large amount of bacteria in him is causing the inflammation causing the bloody stool. In the back of my mind I can't help but worry...

As long as he is eating normally and active then medication at home seems like a reasonable treatment plan. Unfortunately our diagnostic tests aren't always 100% and sometimes we get false results. If he begins vomiting, acting sicker or depressed take him back to vet immediately. But from your description it sounds reasonable that Gordo may have bacterial colitis. Follow the vet recomendations on diet and medication and finish out any antibiotics as prescribed.

Hi there. This is an odd case-it is very strange that a dog not positive would show up negative for parvovirus but can happen (albeit also rarely but slightly less) that a dog is positive but tests negative. Either condition is a cause for worry, so you are not wrong there. Gordo will more than likely need antibiotics, etc if he has not been prescribed these. In my personal opinion- id suggest he get tested again at the same place he tested positive and explain your situation. You may ask to see the test and get an explanation of how that works. It is good that he is still acting normally and eating but I would rather be safe when dealing with such a serious ailment. My best to you and your pup!

My French Bulldog has diarrhea & bloody stool. What should I do?

It sounds as Albert is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

My 8-month Frenchie has bright red bloody poop but seems fine. What to do?

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear that Lucy has bloody stool! Bright red blood in the stool is an indication of inflammation in the colon wall. She may have eaten something that didn't agree with her, or she may have gotten a bacterial infection of her gut causing the inflammation. I would feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see if that clears it up. If she is still having blood in her stool by tomorrow mid day, or if she begins acting sick (not eating, vomiting) I'd have her seen right away. I hope that helps. My dog has bloody diarrhea, negative parvo test. Can it be wrong?

Parvo tests, just like many other medical tests, are not 100% accurate, There are certain strains of the Parvovirus that will show up as negative 100% of the time. You must rely on the veterinarian's clinical experience with the disease and the dog's presentation to determine if Parvo is an appropriate diagnosis. Sounds like Blue should get some radiographs and blood work to see what else might be going on. Hope this makes sense.

Why is my French bulldog puppy not improving after parvo relapse?

Poor Stella. I would recommend that she have a fecal examination done if not already. Sometimes parasites complicate things. Even if the fecal exam is negative I would still do a broad spectrum deworming. Also, rarely, dogs will develop something called an intussuseption. This is where the intestines telescope on themselves and cause vomiting and diarrhea and can be life threatening. An x-ray and/or an abdominal ultrasound would be helpful in ruling these other problems out. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon! Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Why does my French Bulldog puppy have bloody diarrhea after new food?

Rapidly switching food can cause the GI upset you are seeing in Griffey, and I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Also make sure that he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as that can cause bloody diarrhea. Should he start vomiting as well, I would be concerned that the vomiting and his blood diarrhea could be caused by parovirus, which is a life threatening infection in puppies. Should he start to vomit and/or becomes very lethargic and anorexic, take him into the vet immediately. Home remedy: Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet (the new food).

My dog has bloody stools after vet treatment. Should I see another vet?

I would be very concerned about Yogi. Has he had any vaccines? There are several possible causes of this in young dogs. Parvovirus is high on my list. Intestinal parasites is also on my list. If the veterinarian isn’t offering diagnostics like a parvo test or intestinal parasite test, I would go for a second opinion. I think that Yogi needs some oral medications and possible food change.
