My French Bulldog has diarrhea & bloody stool. What should I do?

There are still many diseases that could cause blood in the stool that haven’t been completely ruled out. The next steps might be an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the colon and even endoscopy tonlook for polyps in the rectum or colon and obtain biopsies to rule out inflammatory bowel disease. It’s also possible that Madeleine has not had enough time to respond to the hypoallergenic diet trial. I would recheck with your vet and ask about referral to an internal medicine specialist if you want to discuss more in depth testing.

Rapidly switching food can cause the GI upset you are seeing in Griffey, and I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Also make sure that he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as that can cause bloody diarrhea. Should he start vomiting as well, I would be concerned that the vomiting and his blood diarrhea could be caused by parovirus, which is a life threatening infection in puppies. Should he start to vomit and/or becomes very lethargic and anorexic, take him into the vet immediately. Home remedy: Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet (the new food).

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear that Lucy has bloody stool! Bright red blood in the stool is an indication of inflammation in the colon wall. She may have eaten something that didn't agree with her, or she may have gotten a bacterial infection of her gut causing the inflammation. I would feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see if that clears it up. If she is still having blood in her stool by tomorrow mid day, or if she begins acting sick (not eating, vomiting) I'd have her seen right away. I hope that helps. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian today. Continued vomiting is concerning for something like an intestinal blockage although many potential causes are possible. It’s best to play it safe and not wait this one out. Best of luck.

Harleigh could have worms even though you don't see any in her feces, and that would cause blood in her feces. I would take her into the vet with a sample of her feces. The vet can examine her feces under a microscope for signs of eggs from intestinal parasites, and can prescribe her a deworming treatment.

It sounds as Dahlia is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor Yoda! This diarrhea could be due to intestinal worms, eating something rotten, GI illness, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. Typically if a dog has been having diarrhea for less than 24 hours, a home remedy can be tried, but given that Yoda has been having diarrhea for three to four days, it's time to see a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing the diarrhea, and can treat him for it. I would have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning.
