Why is my French bulldog puppy not improving after parvo relapse?

I am so sorry to hear that Sweety isn’t feeling well. Certainly bacterial infectionor a parasitic infection could be possible. However I would most concerned about a problem called intussusception which is a serious problem where the intestines telescope on themselves and cause an obstruction. Hello. It does sometimes take time for the gut to heal after a bad bout of Parvo, & 11 days of treatment says to me this was a tough one. Continue to fed Pluto, but you might want to switch to an intestinal diet or one made for sensitive stomachs & skin. I would try feeding pretty small amounts frequently, rather than 2-3 larger meals a day. Even a tablespoon or two every hour or so might be tolerated better. If your Pluto was not under the care of a vet for this, I would also be concerned about concurrent intestinal parasites, so a good deworming may be necessary. I would bring a fresh stool sample with you so the vet can check for microscopic parasites. There are many different types of parasites that can cause diarrhea and there is no one medication to treat them all. They may also want to test Lieo for parvovirus as this is common in young puppies and causes vomiting and diarrhea. Either way, Lieo needs medical treatment to prevent further fluid loss which will lead to dehydration. Once they have a cause they can get him medications to help him recover. Puppies commonly get gastrointestinal infections from parasites and bacteria that can cause this to happen. We always worry about Parvo virus in puppies, but it causes bloody stool, so hopefully this won't be the case for Stella. If he is still active and eating/drinking, then this is likely not an emergency, but he should be seen by a vet within the next 24 hours. As long as he is eating normally and active then medication at home seems like a reasonable treatment plan. Unfortunately our diagnostic tests aren't always 100% and sometimes we get false results. If he begins vomiting, acting sicker or depressed take him back to vet immediately. But from your description it sounds reasonable that Gordo may have bacterial colitis. Follow the vet recomendations on diet and medication and finish out any antibiotics as prescribed.

There are still many diseases that could cause blood in the stool that haven’t been completely ruled out. The next steps might be an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the colon and even endoscopy tonlook for polyps in the rectum or colon and obtain biopsies to rule out inflammatory bowel disease. It’s also possible that Madeleine has not had enough time to respond to the hypoallergenic diet trial. I would recheck with your vet and ask about referral to an internal medicine specialist if you want to discuss more in depth testing.

Hello, I am so sorry Paris is not feeling well. I hope your veterinarian has examined her stool for intestinal parasites & ruled out the possibility that this is a virus such as Parvo. Even if there are no parasites, I would still deworm Paris with fenbendazole for a minimum of 3 days, possibly up to 5 days using the same dose each day. Then I would put Paris on complete fast for a minimum of 12-24 hours. After this fasting period, start her on a bland diet of very small amounts of 25% boiled, skinless chicken & 75% boiled, white rice. You can also use a little low fat cottage cheese. Give her frequent small meals of only this food for the next 3 days, then start to transition her back to her regular diet.
