Why is my French bulldog pooping so much after switching dog food?

Some puppies poop more often than others, but I agree that 6-7 times a day seems a bit excessive. The most common cause of issues like this in a puppy this age would be intestinal parasites - so I would recommend taking a fecal sample to your vet for analysis if this hasn't been done already. He/she can look at it under the microscope for evidence of worms like roundworms or hookworms, or other microscopic parasites like coccidia or giardia. If a problem is found, they can prescribe appropriate medication to treat it.

I'm glad to hear that Roo is healthy aside from this soft stool. Yes, it's absolutely fine to switch her to a standard grain-containing diet. The FDA has issued warnings about grain-free diets and a concerning link to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), so switching is a great idea. I prefer brands like Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, Royal Canin, Iams, or Eukanuba, as these companies employ veterinary nutritionists and conduct proper testing on their diets. Since Roo is only 6 months old, be sure to look for a puppy food, as these are formulated for growth. When she's about one year old, you can switch her to an adult food. One of the most important things to remember is that anytime you switch her diet - even just opening a new bag of food - it's best to mix the old and new foods together gradually over 5-7 days. I would recommend stopping mixing hot water with her food, this isn't good at all, and i also recommend feeding the same amount but divide it to 3 times a day instead of 2- until the age of 6 months.

That stool looks normal to me. There are a lot of factors that may be causing Chloe to poop more on the new food including the fiber content of the new diet. If she is otherwise acting normally you don't have to switch Chloe's food because defecating more frequently is not an issue as long as the stool is well formed. Because you state that Chloe is not very active you may want to consider a lower calorie food to prevent weight gain. An all canned food diet can also help to prevent weight gain. Producing what seems like a lot of stool is not likely due to eating too much. A dogfood that is high in fiber or filler will generally cause more stool production. There is a brand called Royal Canin that is really high quality and low residue and most dogs will have a decrease in stool production. I recommend to try this diet. Do continue feeding twice a day as it’s better for the metabolism and decreased the potential for bloat. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Yes it is likely the extra fiber. No worries here whatsoever. Some puppies do poop quite a bit and 2-3 times a day is normal as long as the poop is solid. Rapidly switching food can cause the GI upset you are seeing in Griffey, and I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Also make sure that he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as that can cause bloody diarrhea. Should he start vomiting as well, I would be concerned that the vomiting and his blood diarrhea could be caused by parovirus, which is a life threatening infection in puppies. Should he start to vomit and/or becomes very lethargic and anorexic, take him into the vet immediately. Home remedy: Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet (the new food).
