Why is my finicky dog losing weight after finding ticks on him?

I would take Cyfer into the vet immediately, as it sounds like he is suffering from a tick borne illness. He needs medical attention right away, and the vet can use blood tests to diagnose if he's suffering from a tick borne illness and treat him accordingly.

If she’s a normal weight then she may be only eating what she needs to maintain her weight. If she’s thin then I recommend giving a food with a higher calorie content so she’ll get more calories while eating the same amount. Many dogs aren’t that excited about food and as long as they are healthy this is nothing to be overly concerned about. I would stick with one good quality brand and offer her as much as she wants twice a day. Often taking medicine will decrease the appetite so she may pick up eating soon since she is done with the tick fever treatment. Rocky is very handsome! It is possible he contracted a tick-borne disease when the tick was attached. I recommend taking him back to the vet to run some blood work and find out why he isn't feeling well. If they find the cause, they can start medications to help him feel better. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It can be hard to say for sure to know exactly what is the cause of his loss of appetite from looking at his stools alone. A full exam and additional diagnostics such as blood work, fecal testing, and x-rays are needed in order to get a good idea. The one thing I do see with Fendi's feces is stringy mesh like material in the stool which is not normal. If Fendi ate something he shouldn't around the house, this may be the cause of the stringy material. Foreign material such as this can potentially cause gastrointestinal blockages which can be potentially serious. I would recommend Fendi see his veterinarian very soon for an exam and full work up so a diagnosis can be made and Fendi can receive the most appropriate care and treatment.

It would be hard to say without an exam. My first guess would be to parasites, but if she's been dewormed recently, that may be ruled out. It wouldn't hurt to have another fecal exam done just in case, as well as bloodwork to check for any health issues such as metabolic problems, illnesses, ingredient allergies, etc that may be causing the weight loss. Your vet can also perform a body condition score along with tracking Boots' weight to see if she is too skinny, or still at the correct size for her body type.

I would be very concerned about that amount of weight loss and I doubt it would be related to fleas alone. Kidney disease, diabetes or certain types of cancer could cause weight loss and an increase in water consumption. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian- they may recommend checking some blood work after a physical exam.

I am so sorry that Leo is not doing well! I bet he has lost a lot of weight by not eating these past few weeks. Puppies need lots of calories to grow and develop properly. This alone makes me strongly recommend that you see a veterinarian to help figure out why Leo is not eating. He could have an infection or parasites or even a problem with his liver or kidneys. A veterinarian will do a full physical exam and likely want to do some diagnostics to find out what is wrong. Also,fleas on puppies can be tricky to treat safely and effectively with flea products that are available over the counter. The fleas may also be contributing to Leo's symptoms.
