Dog has ticks, lost appetite, and is lethargic. What's wrong?

Rocky is very handsome! It is possible he contracted a tick-borne disease when the tick was attached. I recommend taking him back to the vet to run some blood work and find out why he isn't feeling well. If they find the cause, they can start medications to help him feel better. Poor guy. I highly suspect that Ghost may have a tick borne disease that was transmitted when the ticks were feeding on him. I would highly recommend taking him back to your vet for a tick titer test to check for these diseases and also get him started on antibiotics (i.e. Doxycycline is the antibiotic of choice for tick related diseases) right away! If he is still not able to recover well wthin 24 hrs of starting the antibiotics, then you should consider having him hospitalized with IV fluids and around the clock care. His condiiton is not good and I would err on the side of caution. I am so sorry that Ghost is so ill, and I sincerlely hope he is able to make a full and speedy recovery soon. There are several tick-borne diseases that could cause lethargy. These include lyme disease, rocky mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiciosis and anaplasmosis. If your dog is lethargic, a visit to your vet is recommended. They can perform a good physical exam and may recommend bloodwork including testing for these tick-borne diseases. It is possible the lethargy could be related to the tick, but there are also many other possible causes for lethargy. An exam and bloodwork will help us narrow down the possible causes.

Unfortunately it sounds to me like Rogue has a medical condition that may be causing his decrease in appetite - he could have a tick borne disease, liver or kidney disease or gastrointestinal problem. I really think it would be best to try to see a vet: you can look into Care Credit as a potential payment option. You could try offering a higher calorie food or mixing canned food in with the dry to tempt him to eat, but if he continues to lose weight you should definitely see a vet.

I'm sorry to hear Cyrus is having issues. Based on the combination of signs you are seeing, I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian. We would be concerned about exposure to tick borne disease (such as Lyme), an infection, an underlying medical issue (diabetes, kidney disease, liver issues), cancer, or an underlying GI issue. I would have him evaluated, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, bloodwork), and start on any treatment that may be needed. Good luck!

Those are ticks. You can purchase a tick preventative at a veterinary clinic. If your dog has a lot of ticks, that can make him anemic (ticks suck blood from dogs and that is why they are attached to the skin). Dogs can also become sick with “tick fever” from ticks. This can include lymes dz, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis. Anemia and tick fever can make your dog lethargic. A veterinarian can examine him and run some bloodwork to see if he has anemia or tick fever. Also, if he is covered in ticks, a dip will help get rid of them. I recommend you take him to see a vet as soon as possible to get rid of the ticks and have him examined.

Hi there! If Arlo was bitten by a tick a while ago and is not doing well now, then Arlo may need to be tested for tick borne diseases and put on a month or two on antibiotics. If Arlo is not eating anything, then that is a bit concerning. I would ask your veterinarian to test for tick borne diseases Arlo may be infected with. In the mean time, you may try feeding small amounts of heated food to entice him but I would revisit with your veterinarian about testing and also antibiotics if he is positive for any tick borne diseases.
