How much should I feed my 12-week-old, 18-pound puppy each day?

I personally prefer the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends for puppies as they are generally inexpensive, are of great quality and dogs seems to love it. For the amount to feed her, I advice you follow the guidelines that you will find in the back of the bag. Keep in mind that you should get the puppy blend. Also, keep in mind that as she grows, you will notice in the back of the bag that it will advice you feed her more. When she becomes a year old, she should be switched to an adult diet. His caloric intake for now will change as he will continue to grow and his needed caloric intake will continue to increase until he becomes an adult. For now it should be about 500 calories per day. However, this will continue to increase until he becomes an adult. Charlie needs around 300-400 calories per day for his weight and age (considering he is a puppy) so I would adjust the cups per day keeping this in mind. As he continues to get older and his weight increases, I would recommend continuing to follow the instructions on the food package label. I usually recommend 1 cup of food per 20# of dog (total for the day). So with your hound he would need approximately 4-4.5 cups of dry food daily. This is just an approximation however because all foods have different caloric densities. He may need less food if he is regularly getting treats or is less active. I hope this helps. However, because her weight will be changing continuously as she grows. The best way to know the amount of food to be fed is following the recommendations found in the back of the bag or their website based on the age and weight at each time. I like to feed four to six smaller meals a day with a young puppy. Please give a large breed dog food so Toby doesn’t grow too fast. I judge the amount to feed by how hungry he is. If he’s ravenous at each meal you are not feeding enough. I increase the amount at each feeding so he’s hungry and just finishes the food. As he grows you’ll find he’ll only want to eat two times a day. As he grows his activity level and growth spurts change the amount of food he needs so I always feed puppies based on their hunger not a specific amount. My first comment is that if Mocca has not been dewormed yet, I would do so because worms can cause a bloated abdomen and abdominal discomfort. If that’s already been taken care of, then yes, I agree she looks a bit full. Some puppies will eat everything you give them, even if it’s more than they really need. Beagles are a breed that are known for this. As such, I’d say just decrease your amount. Aim for the middle of that recommendation- about 145gm per day or about 45-50 gm per feeding. If that is still too much for her, drop to about 35 Gm per feeding. If she is not gaining weight or is looking too thin on these smaller amounts, your vet will likely just recommend feeding the small amount 4 times daily instead of 3 times daily.
