Great question! Luna should be fed three times a day, morning, afternoon, and evening. Take the daily allotment recommended on her food bag, and divide it into three equal portions. As young dogs vary in their activity level I adjust the amount depending on Coso. If he is ravenous at each meal you are not feeding enough. I gradually increase the amount at each feeding so he is hungry at meals and he just finishes the food. If he's starving I feed three meals daily, as he ages and slows down his growth he may not be as hungry then I feed twice daily. I recommend twice daily feeding for life and adjust the amount of food needed to keep him happy and at a normal weight. The feeding amounts on the bag are just guidelines. I recommend the majority of his diet consists of the Royal Canin as that has the proper balance of vitamins and minerals for a growing dog and the human diet does not. The Royal Canin should have a place on the label for recommended feeding amounts for his age and weight. Kisses to Caster!

Molly is cute! Given the mix, she will likely be 50-60lbs when she is fully grown but some pitties can be small (40lbs or so). She should be eating a large breed puppy food until she is 1 year old. As a young Shih Tzu puppy, I'm assuming that Luna is under 3 pounds. Based upon that estimated body weight and her age, the chart recommends feeding 1/4-3/4 cups per day, divided into smaller meals. Small breed puppies really need to eat 3-4 times per day, if possible, because they can easily develop hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) if they do not eat frequently, which can lead to extreme weakness and seizures in severe cases. Try to feed Luna in the morning, when you get home from work, and again at bedtime, giving her about 1/8 cup per meal. If possible, try to look for a dog walker, pet sitter, or neighbor to feed her and let her outside midday. I hope that all goes well!

Each brand of dog food has different nutritional and calories per cup, so the amount she needs might vary according to which brand you have. Make sure Pearl is fed a high quality food for puppies and look on the bag for feeding guidelines. It usually days X cups per day with a table of different body weights.

Luna is adorable! Thank you for posting pictures! We generally recommend feeding a puppy food for as long as a dog is growing rapidly. For a very small dog that will only be 6-9 months. For a very large dog that will be more like 18 months. For Luna, that will likely be about year. If Luna is no longer growing quickly and is starting to put on too much weight, then you may need to change her to an adult food sooner, but changing at around a year of age should be the right age for Luna.
