How to exercise my low-energy 7-month and 3-year-old huskies?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. You will want to walk her in the early morning or late in the evening when it is hot outside. Be careful on concrete or asphalt as it can burn her pads. As opposed to a specific amount of time, I go off of how the dog is feeling each day. If she begins slowing down or if she becomes sluggish, you have gone too far. A dog will pant when it is warm, but this should not be excessive. If she is actively seeking out shade (under a tree for example) and laying down, again you have gone too far. Be sure to carry water and offer it to her frequently. I hope this information helps!

Great question. I recommend taking them out to potty first thing. Then feed them when you eat breakfast. Let them rest at least a half hour to digest their food then take them for a walk. My dogs have access to a fenced yard all day but they love their morning and evening walks to check out what going on in the neighborhood. Let them rest when you get home. As far as training goes general obedience training helps with manners, makes them easier to walk and better companions. Taking a group obedience class is fun and you would get to work one on one. When you work on sit, down, stay, and heel at home you will make more progress working with one dog at a time with the other one not in the training area. They can play outside and inside during the day. Then I recommend another walk late afternoon or early evening. I’d feed them dinner before you eat and keep them inside and calm while digesting their food. Enjoying time with them inside during the evening is good, then one last trip outside to potty before bed. Dogs and people both love a daily routine so adjust this to fit in with your personal schedule and activities. At 60 minutes twice daily, you are doing a little more exercise than Sammi needs at the moment. Over exertion may lead to lifelong [orthopedic issues](https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-common-orthopedic-conditions-in-dogs). The general recommendation is 5 minutes of exercise per month of age twice daily until fully grown, which for most dogs is about 1 year of age, although larger or giant breeds may not be fully grown until about 2 years of age. I recommend cutting back to two 20 minute walks per day, increasing it by 5 minutes each when she is 5 months, and so on. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Huskies are very tolerable of cold weather and have been known to tolerate temperatures as low as -60 degrees Fahrenheit. I would still be careful with how long he is outside for but 40 minutes and exercising in it for this long should be safe for him. If he begins to slow down, lay down more and not want to move when outside, I would get him inside and warm him up. His thick winter coat has likely come in and this will protect him from the cold. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the dogs are not in shape I would start off on short walks multiple times per day to work up their tolerance. There is no formula per se as all dogs athletic abilities and desire to walk and run are different. If you are looking for a running partner start off walking and then a slow jog and slowly increase your distance. I think it is fair to say most dogs should get 2 walks per day. In my experience training is an on going process. If you stop training the desired behaviors tend to wane over time. It may only take a few minutes a day to reinforce the desired behaviors and continue to train. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
