What's the best diet for my dog: dry, human food, or a mix?

I live in egypt i was told that dry food traders import to us is low category not like the dry food outside i asked many vets in egypt and outside egypt some told me feed your dog dry only and other told me feed human good only and other told me feed both and the 3 choices are succeseded with their dogs and they told me you cant feed your dog dry only not tasty for them and joyful as the nature food iam confused i have been asking for 2 months amd i dont know what to do please help me :(

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The topic of 'what to feed your dog' is complicated and very opinion orientated. This means that you will likely get a different answer from each person you ask. My recommendations are to get the best quality dry dog food you can, and feed that. As long as your dog is happy, eating, having normal poops, is a good weight and has a good hair coat, don't worry about other details. Raw meat of any kind is very dangerous and causes severe infections, and bones of any kind (cooked or raw) are very dangerous as well, so I would avoid those. If you would like to feed some meat or vegetables in addition to the dry food you can. Cook the meat as you would for yourself to eat, but without any spices or seasoning (garlic and onions are toxic to dogs), and vegetables like potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, pumpkin, are all good as well (cooked or raw). Yes, dogs can do very well on dry food only. It isn't that dry food is the most ideal food, simply that for most pet owners, it is the most convenient food to store, and the most affordable. There are some people that choose to feed raw dog food, or even cook all their dogs meals. In general, there are many options, what matters is that our dogs are feed a nutritionally balanced diet. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center! In the United States, Pet foods are regulated by a nongovernmental organization called AAFCO. They set standards for what makes a complete pet food. Due to these high standards, most pet foods for sale are adequate to provide complete nutrition for pet dogs. What you want is a food that has an AAFCO statement on the package that the food has been used in FEEDING TRIALS. You will find some food that have a statement that they are FORMULATED to meet requirements. Your family veterinarian may have specific preferences for food types. In general, food made by Hills, Purina, Eukanuba, and Royal Canin will have excellent nutrient profiles for your pet. If your dog has specific medical requirements, your family veterinarian can make recommendations for a prescription food.

What's the best food for my active dog: kibble, canned, or moist?

There are good options in each of those categories. Moist or canned does not necessarily mean high fat, nor does it necessarily mean their teeth will suffer (although you will need to be more conscious of brushing teeth or giving dental chews if they are on a canned diet). Dogs with any predisposition to urinary issues or kidney disease are actually better off on canned or high moisture food, as it increases their water intake (because of the water in the food). You can also feed a mixture of canned and dry. I recommend a high quality commercial pet food such as Science Diet or Nutro.

Hi there. I would recommend feeding both, but make sure it's a diet made for small breed dogs and is high quality.
