Why is my dog's yellow/orange soft poop not improving after vet meds?

Hello, thank you for your question about Romeo. It is possible that the color change could be secondary to one of the medications as these can often lead to change after digestion in the GI tract. If the diarrhea continues in spite of these treatments I would recommend having Romeo rechecked by your veterinarian so that they can consider adding additional medications such as an antibiotic/anti-diarrheal such as metronidazole. If the abovementioned diagnostic tests in combination with the treatments your described were mostly unsuccessful, the next step moving forward would be diagnostic imaging with x-ray and/or ultrasound to further investigate the problem. X-rays would provide a gross picture of the size and shape of the organs, and would show us any extremely obviously issues such as a large mass. Ultrasound imaging would give us a more detailed image of organ architecture, fluid movements, intestinal contractions, and quality of ingesta. Exploratory surgery of the GI tract with biopsies is also another more invasive option if the issues become more severe and worrisome. Other options for diagnostics, typically only available at specialty facilities include endoscopy with biopsy, and CT scan. Hope this helps.

Organge poops are concerning for possible liver disease (the yellow colour suggests the liver is not working as well), and diarrhea is concerning as well. Not wanting to eat like normal is also a sign of not feeling well. You can try him on a bland diet of boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice to see if it is just a gastritis that has thrown off his gut, otherwise I would suggest getting bloodwork done to see if his liver is OK. I'm sorry to hear that Marble is having soft stool. If parasites have been ruled out, then I would suggest a diet change. A low fat and highly digestible formula with a probiotic may improve his stool quality. If that does not help, then he will likely need further blood work or an abdominal ultrasound. If you recently changed foods, that could also explain the coloring difference. Other times, it can be due to parasitic, viral, or bacterial infection present. However, if this does not resolve or progresses to watery diarrhea, a veterinary evaluation should be pursued. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Pepper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi there and thanks for posting! Sometimes stool can change due to a recent change in diet or eating something out of the ordinary or unusual. Other causes can be certain infections such as viral, bacterial, or parasitic infections. Endocrine diseases such as Addison's disease or organ disease of the liver, gallbladder, or pancreas can also cause the color of stool to change. If the color changes continue, you may consider taking Luna in to be seen be her veterinarian to just sure there are no underlying conditions causing the changes.
