Why is my dog lethargic with yellow poop after ear sedation?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Multi-Colored Standard Poodle | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 39 lbs

Our poodle had his ears plucked for the second time to battle an ear infection. This time they had to sedate him (over 24hr ago) now he is acting shy, scared, skiddish, angry, lethargic, and not at all his happy care free self I took him poop and for the 3rd time in a row it was EXTREMELY Yellow . I called our vet who just saw him, they said it's just an upset stomach. I didn't get a great pic of the poop but it was more yellow when it came out. Picture looks orange ish. Could it be bad?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

It is possible it could be a side effect of the sedatives used. If you recently changed foods, that could also explain the coloring difference. Other times, it can be due to parasitic, viral, or bacterial infection present. If the yellow stool continues, you may want to have the stool tested with his veterinarian.

I hope this helps!
