My dog has yellow eye discharge after injury. Should I go to the vet?

The eye lids appear very red and with the history of the runny eye discharge with a sudden onset, there could be a scratch on the cornea or a foreign object trapped under the eye lid. An allergic reaction is also possible. Corneal scratches and foreign objects in the eye are uncomfortable and can get worse quickly. Moo is adorable, but his eyes certainly seem uncomfortable given his squinting! Squinting is a sign of eye pain in dogs. Coupled with the yellow/green discharge, it is concerning that he may have an eye infection, corneal ulcer or uveitis (inflammation within the eyes). Allergies may be contributing, but the yellow/green discharge makes me suspicious that there is another issue present. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Athena seen by a vet today to have her eye examined and diagnosed. Once a diagnosis is reached, the vet can prescribe treatment for her eyes.

Clear nasal discharge is considered normal if not profuse, green however would indicate a potential infection. I would advise taking Archie in to the vet. The veterinarian will be able to take a swab of the discharge to tell if it is an infection and if so what type. The vet will also be able to find the source of the infection; for example nasal passages or within the lungs. A treatment plan can then be made with you.

The tearing and discharge may indicate an infection or injury. You would need to have Tobby physically examined by your veterinarian or a veterinary ophthalmologist to diagnose the underlying cause. Hi, I can see the yellowish discharge in the right eye. In cases of eyes I would always play it safe and recommend to have it checked by a vet properly stain the eye to ensure cornea is intact and no foreign body etc. Since the dog is active , drinking , eating etc and not scratching/rubbing or bothered by the eye it is not urgent but I would schedule an appointment with the vet when they are open after the new year. Monitor she is not scratching the eye as even one movement can scratch and self traumatize the eye, so if start bothering her and she is scratching take her to the vet sooner as she will need an E collar.
