My dog is wobbly with strange eyes for hours, is it an emergency?

I wonder if these two events are potentially the post ictal phase of seizures. A grand mal seizure is characterized by loss of consciousness and convulsions, but the active phase can be quite short. There is then a recovery period called the post ictal phase where the dog is disoriented, can act aggressive or clingy, can pant heavily, or have trouble walking. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian especially if Tullamore is still walking abnormally. Low blood sugar, anemia or liver disease can cause similar signs but usually they would be persistent.

Routine screeening bloodwork can help determine if a liver or kidney issue could be the cause of the seizure. Medical treatment for seizures is usually not started unless the pet has multiple seizures in one month, repeated seizures or a grand mal seizure lasting more than several minutes. Seizures generally have a pre-ictal phase where the pet is anxious and may vomit, the ictal phase during which paddling/convulsions are seen, and the post-ictal phase where the pet is disoriented and often wobbly. It sounds like a small stroke, it could be vestibular disease as well, i would recommend taking him for a checkup today, he should be evaluated to make sure his neurological condition is not damaged.

Poor Dex. Any seizure should be checked out by a vet, as they are not normal. I would get him an appointment to get this checked out as soon as you can. If he seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near his mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor him at all times during the seizure to ensure that he cannot hurt himself by crashing into furniture, etc - If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately I hope this helps!

Hi, sorry to hear Andre is not feeling well. This can be a seizure or a syncopal event, where the heart is not performing how it should be. Syncope is more often seen as fainting or loosing all their energy quickly, then they feel normal again. A seizure can look like shaking, with a post ictal event where he may act like he is off balance and unsure of his surroundings. I suggest taking him to a vet to have his heart checked and blood work to see how his organs are functioning. If possible, video the episode so you can show the vet. He or she may want a neurologist's opinion on this as well. Once you catch it on video, take him and it to the vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!.

That sounds scary! Teddy may have had a seizure. Syncope or a low blood sugar episode are also possible. Teddy needs to be examined by his veterinarian today if possible. Pets can have seizures for many reasons including liver disease, electrolyte imbalance, infections, inner ear problems, cancer or epilepsy. He will need a physical exam and bloodwork to begin to narrow down and appropriately address the cause. Seizures are serious and are best addressed early. Best of luck.

That sounds like Jb had a seizure. I would recommend taking him in. I like to do blood work including checking thyroid levels. I’m looking for treatable things. He also needs a thorough neurological exam to see if there are any deficits. I don’t usually place on anti-seizure medication for one seizure. I do recommend keeping a seizure log- keeping track of what they were doing, how long it lasted.. etc I have been using Royal Veterinary College App for my personal dog.
