My active dog wheezes lightly only when close. Should I be worried?

It could be allergies. Without hearing or examining him, it is difficult to determine definitively. Other causes may include respiratory infection or inflammation, collapsing trachea, heart disease, trauma or foreign body. If symptoms persist, have him examined by your veterinarian.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the wheezing noise is new then I would have Cherry examined. It could be a upper respiratory infection or kennel cough. If Cherry is overweight then that can affect the loudness of her breathing as well. If this has been going on for a while, Cherry could have an overlong soft palate or everted saccules that just vibrate when she is sleeping and snoring. I recommend to have Lizzy Lu examined by the veterinarian. Wheezing is not normal and can indicate allergies, a collapsing trachea or primary lung disease. While cold weather can make wheezing worse, it should not cause the wheezing. It's best to play it safe. The vet will do an exam and may recommend to take an x-ray to look for any abnormalities. Hi there! I would recommend having this checked out by your vet when you're able to. A wheezing sound in the throat, hoarseness, and/or a raspy quality to her panting or breathing are all concerning for something interfering with normal air flow in the back of her throat. This could be due to laryngeal paralysis, a growth or tumor, a foreign body, or something simple like a respiratory infection causing some swelling or inflammation in this area. Your vet can do a complete oral exam under sedation if needed to get a better look at her throat, and may also recommend x-rays or other testing to help check for abnormalities.

If this only happened twice for a few seconds, I'd keep an eye on Hazel for now. If she continues doing it over the next 24 hours or it increases in frequency, then I would take her into the vet to get checked out. Best of luck.
