My dog is wheezing after getting fluids at the vet. Is it normal?

If a dog has heart problems and is unable to utilize the volume of fluids that is given, those fluids can end up in the lungs and cause an increase in breathing. This is most common with large amounts of fluids given IV quickly, but can occur with SubQ fluids. However, it takes time to develop, so it would have occured a number of hours after fluids were given - not immediately after. And when Memi was hospitalized, the IV fluids should have made her worse, not better. The most likely explanation is that the breathing was due to her kidney disease, and the fluids were coincidentally given at the same time. Giving enough fluids (IV or SubQ) is very important to making a kidney failure patient feel good, so continuing her SubQ fuids is important. Good luck! I hope that answered your question. You should definitely call your veterinarian and let them know right away. While there can be various causes for wheezing, one big one can be fluid over load - meaning fluid is building up in Bakri’s lungs. the doctor will need to listen to her lungs and may need an X-Ray. Other causes of altered respiration include abdominal pain, fever, medications that were administered to Babbi. If his breathing remains abnormal for the next 1-2hrs minutes you should get in touch with your local vets as Babbi may need to be seen and assess again by a vet today.

Given his breed, this can also be brachycehalic syndrome though that typically presents in a different way. The vet gave her Autumn just under shock rates of fluid therapy, which would make sense if she was very dehydrated. The fluid give subcutaneously would mean it was absorbed slower over time. This isn't too much fluid, especially if she was very dehydrated. It sounds like the fluids helped, but now she is quick sick again. She should go back to the vet immediately, I would take her in now. best of luck.

There are a variety of causes for what you are describing, including an upper respiratory infection, tracheal irritation, asthma, allergies, or another underlying issue. As they are persistent and non-resolving, I would recommend Cooper be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to try to determine what may be going on, have any necessary testing done (xrays, etc) and start a treatment plan if needed.
