My dog has Parvo and is wheezing during treatment. Is this serious?

I recommend that you have Jayme evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. I'm really worried about Nata - you need to see a veterinarian right away. If the vet you saw earlier isn't open I'd recommend going to an emergency hospital. Nata could have low blood sugar secondary to parvovirus, or he may have aspirated from vomiting causing pneumonia and trouble breathing. It also might be that the parvovirus is causing severe dehydration or a blood infection (sepsis).

Poor girl, I'm concerned about the amount she is breathing (breaths per minute) and the wheezing. Hello. Wheezing is neither a symptom of the HG, nor from the subcutaneous fluids. Fluids can sometimes overwhelm the lungs, but this generally occurs when fluids are administered IV, too fast or in overwhelming amounts. If the wheezing continues, worsens or his breathing rate is greater than 60 breaths per minute ( not panting ), you should return to your vet for further evaluation & treatment. It sounds like Snoopy is suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Since he is obviously having a severe cough, it would be prudent to take him to your veterinarian for an exam. This could be a simple kennel cough, canine influenza, or even a heart problem (congestive heart failure can cause pulmonary edema which in turn can cause wheezing and coughing). Please make an appointment with your vet before the weekend.

I have seen some dogs break with very mild signs (sneezing, coughing) after being vaccinated with a bordetella vaccine. This is a very rare occurrence but can happen. Usually, these signs are self-limiting and resolve in a few days to one week. I would continue to monitor her and make sure that her signs resolve and do not worsen. One side effect of vaccines (although not common) is causing a very mild form of the disease. I have only seen this with bordetella vaccines and it is very rare based on how doses are given daily around the world. If her signs persist, worsen, or other signs develop, please call your vet and have them advise you. Good luck with Daisey.

Wheezing noises could be a sign that Popcorn is still nauseous or has abdominal pain. If she aspirated when she vomited it is also possible that she is having some difficulty breathing. If she is still making these noises you should see a veterinarian as soon as possible. If the wheezing has resolved it is likely nothing to be worried about. I hope she's feeling better!
