My dog has a red spot around his butthole. What could it be?

Dogs do not get hemorrhoids. This could be a skin infection or an anal gland infection. Unfortunately there is also a possibility that your dog may have a beginning tumor at this site. The earlier such conditions are treated the more likely they can be cured. You will need to schedule an appointment with your vet to have this examined. At best it is just a harmless skin change, but there is no way to determine that from a photograph.

It could be that your dog has injured herself, could have an infection, or it could be a growth of some sort (benign or malignant) causing this red spot on her bottom. Unfortunately without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I would have her checked out by a vet this week for this problem. He could be having a problem with his anal gland and have an infection and/or need the glands expressed. If the problem continues than have your vet examine him to determine the cause. Your vet can express his glands, if needed.

One spot of redness is nothing to be concerned about. It could be a simple bug bite or mild skin infection that should resolve on its own in a few days. As long as the redness does not spread, worsen or cause discomfort, then it should be fine to just monitor this area for now. Hello, sorry to hear about Peanut. The area appears red with hair loss likely from him biting/chewing at it. Potential causes for this may include a local allergy with development of a secondary hotspot, he may be very itchy from flea allergy dermatitis, or he could have a primary skin infection with bacteria, yeast, or even parasites. I would recommend having his veterinarian examine that portion of his lower back to determine if this is most likely associated with allergies or an infection which will then direct this treatment suggestions. Red’s anus does look irritated and I can see some redness on the underside of his tail as well. He might be licking due to irritation from full anal glands, parasites or allergies. I would recommend having your vet examine him and check his anal glands. They may want to check a stool sample as well. Oral or topical medications might help. I would recommend putting an e-collar on to prevent licking until you can get to the vet.
