My dog has a weird wound on her stomach, but it doesn't bother her.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Remy. This looks like a bacterial skin infection, often called staph pyoderma/bacterial dermatitis. I would advise taking Remy to your veterinarian and let them gather a history and perform an examination. Based on their findings, they will probably advise treating this infection. This may involve a medicated shampoo, oral antibiotics, anti-itch medicines, etc. Good luck with Remy. This type of skin infection is NOT contagious to other dogs or people.

I'm glad to hear that Ivy doesn't seem to be bothered by this lesion, despite how inflamed and irritated it appears. While it's impossible to say definitively what the cause of this lesion is without further diagnostics, I can say that it's possible that this could be an irritated insect bite, or a benign or malignant mass. Given the irregular surface of this lesion, I think a bite/sting is unlikely, but the possibility shouldn't be ignored. Since it's so red and obvious, we have to assume that it popped up pretty quickly since you're just noticing it. As a result, I do think that you should have this checked out by your vet in person in the coming week. After an exam, your vet will likely want to perform a fine needle aspirate, where they'll use a needle to draw out a few cells for microscopic evaluation. That will help them to determine if this is more of an inflammatory/infectious issue rather than a more aggressive lesion. In the meantime, be sure to keep a close eye on Ivy. If she starts to lick this area at all, put an e-collar (cone) on her, as the licking will only cause further irritation. I hope that everything goes well!

It is difficult to tell from the pictures if this is truly a wound; I cannot see close enough. If you believe that she may have a wound or damage to her skin, I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian to see if she requires surgical repair of the wound and/or pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection. If she is otherwise acting normally (eating, drinking and passing normal feces and urates) you may be able to monitor the area for any changes or worsening appearance. I hope this is helpful!

Yes you should be very concerned - she needs urgent veterinary assessment to investigate the depth of the wound and the extent of the injury. Surgical cleaning and repair of the wound may be required alongside antibiotics and pain medications. If the wound is deep this may be lifethreatening as her vital organs may become exposed

Most likely Pixie will need a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents to fully recover. Please, make sure she is not licking or scratching the area as by doing that she will likely make things worse.

Thank you for providing a picture of Rosie's wound. It looks like she could have injured herself, leading to this red spot. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep an eye on it, and if it gets bigger, becomes swollen, warm to the touch, or there's pus, I would take her into the vet to get treated. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hello! This looks like some sort of reaction, possibly to a bug bite? It looks a little infected, too. Could you keep an eye on this, and try to prevent Murphy from licking at it? If it is growing or getting worse, it would be best to have him checked out by his vet, to see if antibiotics might be needed. Best of luck!
