My dog has a growing scab-like mark on her belly. Should I worry?

It may be an allergy to something specific in the environment or something else like fleas or food. This may go away on its own if it is something minor. From the picture, it looks like Ebony has a skin infection (superficial pyoderma) . Since the infection seems to be in multiple areas so it is likely that Ebony will need to visit the veterinarian so she can have prescription medications. This will likely consist of both antibiotics by mouth and possibly topical therapy. I hope this information helps, good luck and I hope Ebony gets the relief she needs soon! :-)

Hi there. From your photos, it appears that Pepper has some mild infection of her skin. This can be caused by an allergy to something, or allergy to food. Bacteria likes to invade skin that is inflamed and a small infection will develop. I would recommend taking Pepper to you vet for an exam and skin testing. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It may be the picture but I am concerned that there may be also a lump as well. If that is the case, that should be evaluated to know if it is actually a growth. Good luck and have a good night!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It appears that Lexi has pustules on her abdomen based on the pictures you provided. It appears to be superficial but I cannot see the rest of the body and if other parts of the body are affected. If this is just isolated to the abdomen and is not worsening, I would try these things first. If no improvement or the condition worsens, I would take her in to be seen by a veterinarian as she may need oral antibiotics in addition to topical therapy. I hope this helps! 1. Douxo S3 Pyo shampoo - bathe twice weekly and lather for 8-10 min prior to rinsing 2. Miconahex spray - apply this to the affected area 2-3 times daily on the days you are not bathing 3. Essential 6 spot on oil - apply as directed on the box. All of the above products can be purchased online quite easily. I hope this helps! If you can, shave away the hair at the affected area so that you can get the medications to get to the skin easier.

It looks like this sore is scabbed over, which means it's healing. In the picture, it looks a bit pink around the area, but I don't see any signs of infection. At this point in time, I recommend just observing it for now. I don't think it requires a vet visit. Keep an eye on her when she goes outside to potty, and check the area daily. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus then it's infected and she needs to see the vet. I hope this helps!
