My dog has a dirty stomach wound. Should I take her to the vet?

My doh has a weird opening on her stomach and it dirty and I just wanna know what it is and should I be concerned

Yes you should be very concerned - she needs urgent veterinary assessment to investigate the depth of the wound and the extent of the injury. Surgical cleaning and repair of the wound may be required alongside antibiotics and pain medications. If the wound is deep this may be lifethreatening as her vital organs may become exposed

Oh dear! A wound like this in the abdomen can be very serious, so I would recommend having Princess seen by a vet today for an exam. At the very least, it sounds like she needs an antibiotic and some anti-inflammatory medication to treat the wound. If the wound is deep enough to penetrate the abdominal wall, she may also need more intensive care for peritonitis (a severe infection of the abdominal cavity), such as hospitalization or even surgery to flush the wound and repair any internal damage that may be present.

This wound is very concerning. I can't comment on how it started and past treatment but I would recommend Canyon get rechecked as soon as possible. This needs further care, potentially surgery to fix. I would think it is causing Canyon pain and discomfort. Do not give him any human medication as it can be toxic to dogs.

Oh my. That is definitely something that should have been seen if she was monitored for a few hours. Poor girl. I am so sorry, but I would highly recommend taking Holly in to an ER vet to have them look at this gaping hole closer to determine if this is going all the way through to the abdomen or has the potential to in the near future Also they need to start antibiotics right away and potentially close this area surgically with a drain in place, so it doesn't abscess. My dog has a deep leg wound, diarrhea, and won't eat. Is she okay?

It sounds like her cut may have become infected and is causing more problems. Try to keep the wound as clean as possible for now and plan on taking her to the vet as soon as you can. My dog has a weird wound on her stomach, but it doesn't bother her.

Poor girl. This almost looks like a superficial bite mark possibly?? and the redness is a bit concerning. Even if it isn't bothering her, I would still recommend taking Remi to your vet to get this checked out. There is a scab there so it is trying to heal but the bite looking marking should be evaluated further. You can also try cleaning it with betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water, let it dry, then place a very small amount of Neosporin on it (nothing too goopy that she can lick off) until you can get her looked at. My dog has a puncture wound and a lump under her skin. Should I worry?

Hello, sorry to hear about Babe. I agree with you it doesn't look like it is bleeding and I could potentially be seeing something in the hole. The area appears to be quite deep and my biggest concern would be that it is going into her abdomen. This wound should be checked and managed by your veterinarian tonight to reduce the risk of an infection, especially if the wound is recent. If it is going into her abdomen, then she may need to have further diagnostics to exclude a foreign object within her abdomen. Depending on how old your veterinarian thinks this wound may be, they may chose to manage it as an open wound or close it with stitches. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Ouch - poor pup! This wound looks quite deep, so yes - I would definitely recommend a vet visit. This may need stitches, depending on how long ago it happened, and your pup will certainly need antibiotics to prevent it from becoming infected while it heals.

It is difficult to tell from the pictures if this is truly a wound; I cannot see close enough. If you believe that she may have a wound or damage to her skin, I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian to see if she requires surgical repair of the wound and/or pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection. If she is otherwise acting normally (eating, drinking and passing normal feces and urates) you may be able to monitor the area for any changes or worsening appearance. I hope this is helpful!

My dog has an open wound. When should I take him to the vet?

He needs to be taken to the vet as it looks infected, he will need a course of antibiotics, i don't think this will require stitching but a bandage with a local cream may also be needed to help it heal faster.
