My dog is weak, falling, not eating, and has bloody urine. What to do?

I'm so sorry to hear that. Bloody urine can have a number of different causes. It can be due to a problem in the urinary tract-- such as a severe urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a bladder tumor. Those things may also cause her to urinate frequently in small amounts and/or strain to urinate (but not necessarily). It could also be a problem higher up in her urinary tract--in her ureters (tube from kidney to bladder) or in her kidneys-- again an infection, stone or tumor. The other potential cause of seeing blood in the urine is if she isn't able to form a blood clot properly. If her blood platelets or clotting factors are low or are not working correctly, bleeding can occur within the bladder (or anywhere in the body--bruising under the skin, bleeding around the gums, blood in the stool, bloody nose, blood in the eyes). We can also sometimes see the urine look bloody when its actually a different thing causing the pigment (color). For instance, if she's destroying her red blood cells and the pigment (color) from the red blood cells which is the hemoglobin is ending up in her urine. Also myoglobin (which occurs with massive muscle damage) can result in dark reddish brown urine. Some types of toxic ingestions can also result in reddish brown urine. The seizure on Sunday makes me more concerned that something very serious is going on with her. If she's unable to clot her blood properly she could have a bleed in her brain. Or the seizures may be completely unrelated to the urine. I wish I could offer you a suggestion to treat her at home, but it sounds like you need to have her seen by a veterinarian as soon as you can.

Without any further information or clinical signs there are an infinite number of problems that could be going on. If she is weak and swaying then this could be a life threatening emergency and she should be seen immediately. If there is any chance that she has been exposed to any toxins, prescription medications, or recreational drugs please make sure to tell the veterinarian what she may have had access to. After a physical examination the veterinarian may have more of an idea about the potential problem. They may recommend lab work or an x-Ray to give them more information. This sounds more like your dog has a chronic gastro-intestinal problem such as food intolerance, gastritis, chronic or acute pancreatitis, food indiscretion, or even a tumor, liver disease. He also may have a chrionic infection somewhere, e.g. in his prostate, which could be the cause of the blood in his urine, or kidney disease. The signs are too unspecific to pinpoint a cause, so you need to take Potato to your vet for an exam and blood work, and possibly xrays. Please make an appointment right away.

Kobe sounds extremely ill if he's been urinating blood for a week, was throwing up, and has stopped eating. He also sounds very lethargic if he's sleeping a lot. He has to see a vet immediately, he definitely needs veterinary care right away. There is nothing you can do for him at home. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

I am so sorry to hear that your dog is so unwell. From what you are describing it sounds possible that he could have ingested a toxin, have a urinary tract infection, an infection of the prepuce, or an issue with his kidneys. Because he is so lethargic and not eating I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian as soon as possible to a diagnosis and appropriate treatment. If you can collect a urine sample to bring in that would be helpful. Poor DuDu! Blood in urine (haematuria) is a symptom compatible with various diseases. It could be compatible with: lower urinary tract inflammation/infection, bladder neoplasia or polyps, bladder stones, renal diseases, vaginal diseases. Inappetence and lethargy are possibly secondary to the disease causing the blood in the urine. I suggest to collect a urine sample and bring DuDu to your local vet asap for a full physical examination. Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further. Poor Rocky. He could have a problem with his prostate, may have leptospirosis, a UTI, or bladder stones causing this. He is very sick and he needs to see a vet immediately. Please take him into one now.
