My dog got water in his nose while bathing. Is he going to be okay?

I'm sorry that Tuck inhaled some water! Given that he is acting totally normal, running around and playing, I would suspect he will be fine. If he was having difficulty with this, he would not be running around or playing and he likely did not ingest enough of the bath water to cause a significant problem. I would be more concerned if he was acting like this after being in a swimming pool or a large body of water. Keep an eye on the hacking, and if it's continues or gets worse over the next 24 hours, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps :-)

Hello, again. I would just watch him for now. More than likely he will sneeze out anything remaining. Again, as long as he is not having any difficulties breathing, I would just keep an eye on things. He may have a bit of an upper respiratory infection going on & these are pretty self limiting after a week or so. If he is otherwise happy & eating well, he should not need antibiotics at this time. He will not inhale this into his lungs as this is pretty impossible to do through the nasal passages. So if he is not in any distress, he will be fine. This is likely a coincidence. If he is acting normally and eating and drinking well then I would continue to monitor him. If he starts to bleed from his nose or anything else changes, I would contact your vet. Now, if he is sneezing constantly then I would be concerned. He could have gotten something stuck in his nose. In this case, I would take him to see your vet so they can do a nasal exam on him. I hope this helps.

Unfortunately this is not common and the majority of dogs will drink with no problem. I imagine that when he drinks a little water is going down the wrong way. This is possibly due to an issue at the back of the throat effecting his swallow mechanism. Don't panic about it as I'm sure he is doing well otherwise, but I think it would definitely be wise to have your vet investigate this. They will likely need to sedate him and do imaging.

Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor little Buddy! I can tell you love him and are concerned for his safety. Chances are, Buddy will do just fine. My biggest concern would be exactly what you said: the possibility of aspiration, or accidentally breathing the water into his lungs. Sometimes aspiration can lead to pneumonia, or a lung infection, and that could be life threatening. For now, monitor Buddy closely. There's really nothing to do preemptively for him, and chances are he'll do just fine. But watch him closely, especially his appetite and general attitude over the next couple days. If the sneezing continues more than a couple hours, if he quits eating, or if he suddenly seems to have less energy, then he should be seen by a vet to make sure he's not developing pneumonia. It sounds like Bailey may have a minor respiratory infection or allergies - both of these are common causes of a runny nose and sneezing in dogs. In most cases, this problem will resolve on its own so as long as he is eating and drinking fine, active, and not having any other symptoms, it should be okay to monitor him at home for the next few days. You can try bringing him into the bathroom with you with the door closed while you take a hot shower, if you like - the steam and humidity will often help to relieve nasal congestion and temporarily improve his symptoms. If the discharge becomes yellow or green in color, or if he begins acting lethargic or not wanting to eat, I would recommend having him examined by a vet as he may need prescription antibiotics to treat the infection.

It could be possible but not likely. Teddy would need a fair amount of water in his lungs to cause a problem, which shouldn't happen during a bath. He should be ok, but you can monitor him to be safe.
