My dog is vomiting yellow foam and has puffy eyes. Is it an allergy?

Hi, and thanks for your question. This presentation is likely to be due to a gastritis due to dietary indiscretion. The ey seems normal as far as I can see from the pic. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitely recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, lethargy or inappetence. Yes, you should take her to your vet for an exam. The downward dog position is probably from some sort of pain or discomfort in her abdomen. The vomiting and not eating also goes along with that. Please take her to a vet as soon as possible.

Diarrhea and throwing up can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. The only way to find out what is causing a possible food allergy is a) to know what you are feeding her and 2) to do an elimination diet under veterinary supervision. I would fast Merida for 24 hours and then her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I highly recommend that you have Tack evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sometimes blood in the vomit can be seen with things like gastrointestinal ulceration which can occur secondary to medications, especially prednisone which is a commonly used medication for allergies. If this seems like a possibility, they would start her on medications for an ulcer. Good luck! I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling, itchiness or vomiting do not resolve or if your dog is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

I would advise that you have her seen today if the vomiting persists, worsens, or other signs develop. Not sure if the vomiting is related to the allergic reaction but it could be. I would withhold food and water for at least 12 hours and let her stomach/intestinal tract settle down. She can have ice cubes to lick on every few hours is there is no vomiting. Then after a short fast give her a few tablespoons of water and wait for one hour. If she hasn't vomited, then start feeding her really small meals about 1-2 tablespoons every few hours throughout the next 12 hours after the fast. You can try to give the Benadryl but if that makes her vomit, then hold off until her stomach settles down. Again, if the vomiting persists, you will have to have her seen today.
