My dog is vomiting water & has diarrhea, no vet open. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 50 lbs

My dog is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retriever she is throwing up and has diarrhea 15 months old. There’s no extended vet care hospital open. She will drink water but keeps throwing up. Is there anything I can do?

I'm quite concerned that she is vomiting up water, as paired with the diarrhea, she will very quickly get dehydrated. In this case, a home remedy is not recommended and she should see a vet now for a shot to stop the vomiting and IV fluids. See if there is a vet on call for emergencies in your area. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. While you are trying to find a vet to see her, withhold food, and only offer small amounts of water at a time. Rest her as well. Best of luck.

Yes, I would be very concerned about Kali! It's not normal at all for a puppy to vomit all the time, and it's very serious she is now vomiting water. Young puppies are very fragile, and she can easily get dehydration from this vomiting of food and water. She has to have veterinary care now, this is a medical emergency. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

If possible, please take Bailey to your local emergency service for an appointment tonight. If this is not an option, you should withhold any water or food overnight, offer him very small amount of water in the morning and take him to your regular vets as soon as they open on Saturday morning.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kona! Sounds like Kona had a eventful weekend! I think the new treats and/or the water could be causes of her upset stomach today! I would fast her: no food or water for 12 hours. If she doesn't vomit fasted then start "sip and nibble" of a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice and water in 12 hours. Feed small frequent meals about 1 cup per day. If she continues to vomit or have extreme diarrhea during the fast or starts vomiting when you introduce food then she should be seen by your Vet! I wish you and Kona the best!

My dog vomited after drinking water and has watery diarrhea. What to do?

Poor Jake! It's quite serious that he is vomiting after drinking water, and I would not feed him at this point in time. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, and if the vomiting stops, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Should Jake keep vomiting water, vomits in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately.

I see that she isn't spayed and this behavior can be a sign of a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Your only option is to take her into a vet immediately. Given Boomer's older age and the acute onset of the vomiting/diarrhea, I would have him seen sooner rather than later by a veterinarian. Boomer could just have an upset stomach, but he also could have a foreign body, an infection or even a tumor causing these signs. Your vet will perform a full physical exam and determine if any additional diagnostic testing is needed (bloodwork, xrays ) and what treatments he made need. Good luck!
