My dog was attacked. Why is he vomiting and not eating after meds?

Poor Mac! I recommend to call his veterinarian who may ask to see him again or may recommend medications. It possible the antibiotic has upset his tummy but it’s also possible something else is going on. You can switch his diet to boiled white meat chicken and plain boiled white rice for the next few days. If he continues to be sick, he should see his veterinarian. It is possible that he is feeling nauseous from the Flagyl....that daily dose for a 23 lb dog is often split into two daily doses. It is also possible that he may have a stomach upset/or even an ulcer from the Novox, especially if it was given on an empty stomach. NSAIDs do have the potential of causing vomiting and diarrhea in sensitive dogs. A bland diet of boiled rice and chicken for 3-5 days plus a stomach coating medication called sucralfate daily for a few days +/- an antacid such as famotidine + subcutaneous fluids and bloodwork could be appropriate next steps. I’d recommend returning to your veterinarian or seeking a new vet if you are more comfortable with a new vet. Hopefully the lameness is no longer an issue and with relatively conservative management the vomiting and diarrhea can be resolved as well. Good luck!

That poor baby is lucky to have you taking care of him. Lupin makes a couple of different antibiotics, but I'm guessing at a dose of 250 you have either Cephalexin or Amoxicillin. Neither would be my first choice for a bite wound that involves the nasal cavity and 250 mg would be too high of a dose for this ittle guy, so I would recommend contacting your vet for an appropriate antibiotic. Continuing the wam compress on the eye is a great idea. You can do the compress along the nose as well. You may need to get some pain medication from your vet to get him eating and drinking. He may be too painful to open his mouth well. You can try to offer a small amount of water with a syringe. If he is not able to swallow that well, you need to see your vet again. If he does OK with swallowing water, you could try to offer him some warm, stinky canned food that you have made into a gruel to see if he can eat/drink that on his own. Vomiting can be caused by many different conditions including gastritis (upset stomach from eating something like garbage, raw food, bones, or dead animals in the park, etc.), pancreatitis, obstructions in the gut, as well as kidney/liver/metabolic diseases. Very often amoxicillin will do nothing to help the vomiting, and can make it worse as antiboitics are hard on the guts. I recommend feeding a bland diet of boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breast and boiled rice in small frequent meals (4-6 meals a day of 1/2 cup size meals). If the vomiting continues, or if Mui is lethargic or weak, then I would see a vet right away. If the vomiting stops and she is eating and acting normally then she is likely OK. I would not give any amoxicillin. Best of luck with Mui.

Her eating grass and feeling unwell could very well be the clavamox, it is known to cause nausea. try giving the clavamox about 10-15 minutes after a large meal. it can reduce this side effect. the sleepiness could be both the antibiotics and the kennel cough, it's quite normal but she should start feeling better soon.

Poor Bayzel. Vomiting while on antibiotics could be an adverse effect of the medication, especially if he was just started on it less than 24 hrs ago. Notify your vet and another antibiotic can be tried. If he wasn't just started on the medication, then yes the chicken could have upset his stomach, especially if he isn't used to it and/or it had spices on it that just didn't agree with him. Offer him fresh, plain boiled chicken breast and white rice for the next few feedings and also some Pedialyte (non-flavored) diluted 50:50 with water to help keep him hydrated after so many bouts of vomiting. If he is still vomiting up water and food by tomorrow, then its best to take him to your vet for further care. These don't sound like signs that are related to his heart disease at the moment. Bloodwork analysis may help reveal the underlying problem. I hope that Bayzel feels better soon and best wishes moving forward with his care.

Poor Buddy! It is difficult to know the cause without examining him and knowing the medications he is taking. If he is taking an antibiotic then he could have an upset stomach from the antibiotic. You should call your vet and give him/her an update as your vet may need to change medications. You could also add a probioitc to his diet and see if that helps. It would also be a good idea to have a stool sample tested for parasites to make sure he doesn't have an intestinal parasite causing the problem. Hope he feels better soon!
