My dog vomited & won't drink. Could his urine color mean dehydration?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I agree, that is some very dark urine which indicates he must not be drinking enough. You need to increase his water intake. The best way to do that is to add some chicken or beef broth to his food; use the low sodium kind. The added salt (even in the low sodium variety) should encourage him to drink more. If this dark urine continues for more than a few days you should take him to your vet for an exam and urine test.

His urine is very dilute from drinking lots of water. If he had a problem with his kidneys, you could see blood in his urine, peeing multiple times but in small amounts, lethargy, and possibly a loss of appetite. I hope this helps!

What usually concerns us is if there is an increase in water intake & also increased urinations which could be an indication of some underlying condition. It is impossible to make any conclusion based on your picture, but I see nothing that overly concerns me. If he is acting & eating normal, there is probably no immediate concern right now, but as a pet ages, things can start to happen. If it has been a while since Romeo has seen a veterinarian, it may be time for a good wellness checkup. This would include blood work & a urinalysis. This could indicate that something is wrong with Roxy. Her urine is so yellow likely because she is not drinking much water. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have her blood tested and her urine as well. I'm so sorry to hear that Boomer is sick! It is very concerning that Boomer is throwing up everything including water. The vomit being coffee colored makes me concerned about a GI ulcer or serious GI bleed. This can occur secondary to toxin ingestion, kidney failure, or overdoses of some medications. I strongly suggest you take Boomer to an emergency veterinarian so he can be examined and supportive care can be started. He will likely need blood work to determine what the underlying cause. Unfortunately without emergency care Boomer is at risk of becoming dehydrated and the illness worsening. You can try a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice however I don't think this will resolve the issue so I'd still encourage you to seek veterinary care for Boomer as soon as possible. Unfortunately, those are quite nonspecific symptoms, and could be consistent with almost any illness. If Prince isn't eating or drinking, and is vomiting, he really needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your vet can determine quite a lot by a good exam, and will then be able to recommend any appropriate diagnostic tests to determine what's wrong. At the very least, your vet can help Prince feel better with supportive care to control his nausea, and give fluids to correct his dehydration. I worry especially with his young age and being such a little guy, he can become dehydrated quickly. I hope he feels better soon!

Hello. Yes, it is possible that Chula is dehydrated, or can become dehydrated soon. Not only is water lost each time she vomits, so are the electrolytes, sodium, potassium & chloride. The body requires us to take in & maintain a certain level of fluids, & even if there is normal urination & no diarrhea, we can lose fluids just breathing, & for dogs, panting. So, if Chula continues to vomit everytime she drinks, she will never be completely well & may get sicker. I would certainly recommend seeing your veterinarian as soon as possible.
