Why is my puppy throwing up water and not peeing? Is she dehydrated?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Please, do not give Chapo anything to eat or drink for the next 4-5 hrs, then offer small amount of water. If he keeps it down, you can offer more water and small amount of bland food (cooked chicken or other lean meat) in the next 1-2hrs. If he is taking the food and keeping all down you should give him more every 2-3hrs. However, if Chapo continues to vomit, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment today. Vomiting in otherwise healthy dog is usually caused by stomach upset from gastrointestinal infection, inflamed pancreas, abdominal pain.

Your puppy sounds very ill, and if Aurora hasn't been vaccinated, she could be suffering from parvovirus causing her to throw up, have runny stools, and not eat or drink. It could also be she has a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have a pyometra as I see she's not spayed. It's not common to get a pyometra in puppies, but it can happen. I would consider her symptoms a medical emergency, and she needs to see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Chronic vomiting, has multiple causes but may cause an electrolyte imbalance which could account for the symptoms you are seeing. If he is drinking more water than usual, he should be seen by your vet for an exam and bloodwork to rule out kidney disease, diabetes or other GI issues. When a pet is vomiting, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If he won't eat, serve the food warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not or if the appetite does not return, then you will need to see your veterinarian.

Being a chihuahua, this could be congestive heart failure. Many other things can cause similar symptoms like pneumonia. If he's been vomiting and not drinking much, yes it is possible that he's a bit dehydrated. His urine in the picture does look a bit yellow, but if he is now drinking water and feel better, I expect he will become hydrated again in due course. It's fine to increase his water intake, and you could add some gently warmed, low sodium chicken broth to his food to help with increasing his fluid intake. I hope this helps.

Lulu is absolutely adorable! It depends on how Lulu is acting and if she is still vomiting. My concern is how old Lulu is. Puppies this young can become sick and decline very quickly. So if she is still vomiting, her energy level or anything is off, if any of the vomit has blood in it or if she starts to develop diarrhea then I would highly recommend taking her to a veterinarian as soon as possible. This can be something simple like just an upset stomach from eating something she wasn't supposed to but it could be something more especially since she is not fully vaccinated. It's good that Chloe is drinking water, but it's not an improvement if she can't keep it down and vomits it up. Dehydration is the number one cause of death in these pets. You may need to take her back into a vet for IV fluids. I certainly hope she recovers!
