Is dog sluggish and vomiting brown normal after hydrogen peroxide?

The peroxide can be very irritating to the esophagus and stomach lining. It is the main reason we do not recommend using it to induce vomiting. You can try withholding food for 12-24 hours, allowing small, frequent amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a soft, bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Start with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no dry heaving or vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve then transition slowly to Gene's regular diet. If the dry heaving persists, have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

I'm glad the tampon came out! And you certainly are not the first one that's happened too. Hydrogen peroxide can often successfully induce vomiting as in Khloe's case, which is good. However, it also causes significant irritation to the wall of the stomach. This can cause bleeding in the stomach. Digested blood appears brown. Therefore I am concerned that Khloe may have some pretty significant gastritis. I would recommend that you get her to a vet, they will likely prescribe a medication called sucralfate (carafate) that is very helpful in cases of severe gastritis. An acid reducer such as Pepcid may be indicated as well--however I would not recommend giving that without first seeing a vet. If she happened to eat anything else strange from the trash, stomach acid is a vital part of digesting material and making it most likely to be able to pass through. Taking her in would certainly be my first recommendation. However, If you want to avoid going to the vet if possible, and she only vomited brown liquid once, and she is otherwise acting ok--active, happy, interested in whats going on around her, eating when offered--its reasonable to give her 24 hours with small amounts of boiled chicken/white rice to eat, and see how she does. Keep fresh water available at all times but don't allow her to drink large volumes at a time. If at any point she becomes lethargic, has no interest in food, or she vomits more than 2-3 times in a 12-24 hour period, take her in. Even though you are only in the area temporarily, Ruger should see a vet immediately. It's quite serious that he threw up a pile of blood, and that can be caused by giving him the peroxide. It's not recommended to induce dogs to vomit with peroxide because it causes gastritis and esophagitis, which can lead to vomiting blood. I would find an ER vet in the area, or call around local clinics to find a vet on call to see him now.

Oh my, poor Max has been through a lot lately! As you know, the butter ingestion could certainly exacerbate his pancreatitis. I don't personally recommend using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting because more recent studies have shown that it causes damage to the linings of the esophagus, stomach and intestines in nearly all dogs that receive it. I'm glad that you've stopped giving the peroxide at this point. If he isn't vomiting after 8 tablespoons, it's unlikely that it will cause him to vomit at all. Since he's received so much peroxide and is now coughing, I would recommend taking him to the vet. Your vet may want to take some chest x-rays to be sure that Max didn't aspirate (inhale) anything, that could be causing his coughing. Likewise, they may need to prescribe antacids and medication to coat his esophagus and stomach to protect him against ulceration. As far as the butter and pancreatitis situation goes, time will tell. Your vet will likely recommend continuing a low fat or bland diet for a longer period of time than he would have otherwise needed and may also extend the course of any anti-nausea medications. Since the treatment for pancreatitis is supportive, his supportive care measure may just be extended longer. I hope this helps and that Max feels better soon!

I'm glad that your vet recommended that Charlie vomit up the grape that he'd eaten. The biggest challenge with grape ingestion is that there is no known "safe" amount. With this type of potential toxicity, some dogs can experience acute kidney failure after eating just one grape, while others can be perfectly fine after eating a bunch. As far as using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, some studies have shown that there can be considerable damage and irritation to the esophagus and stomach due to hydrogen peroxide. Generally, I do not recommend using it for this reason. I understand that it's really challenging to measure and force-feed this substance, so it's really easy to give a little extra. Since Charlie has not stopped vomiting and is acting normally, odds are very good that he'll be absolutely fine. Just keep a close eye on him for changes in his overall demeanor, appetite, vomiting, hard swallowing (gulping not associated with eating or drinking), or any other concerns. If problems arise, be sure to take him to your vet, but again, odds are very much in your favor. I hope that everything goes well!

Poor Charlie! You did the right thing by taking him into the vet. It is likely that he had a cut from hitting himself, and that would cause the bright red blood in the vomit. The black color of his feces indicates digested blood, so if he had blood in his stomach from the injury, it passed through his GI tract leading to the black color of his feces. He may be painful as well from hitting his mouth, causing him to be more lethargic than usual. Now it is concerning he is breathing funny, but that can also be pain related. Keep an eye on him tonight, and if he's still showing these same symptoms in the morning, take him back into the vet. I suspect the two events are not related since t was 6 hours later. Just like humans, there are many many causes of vomiting and some of the causes can be very serious. Any pet vomiting beyond 24 hours should be examined by the veterinarian. I recommend to have Hershey examined if needed.
