My dog vomited blood after eating a toothpick. What should I do?

I'd just keep an eye on Max for now. If you see blood in his stool or other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet. Otherwise, he should be fine.

If it was the one episode of vomiting and he is otherwise acting normally then I would be concerned but not panicked. I would watch him for the next 24 hours to see what happens. Yes, I would be concerned. Vomiting blood is serious, and if Lola's eaten something sharp, it could be piercing her stomach and/or intestines causing the blood in her vomit. In addition, you are correct that it could bet stuck in her stomach. I would take Lola into see a vet immediately.

If she has been vomiting multiple times in the last 24 hours, this can also sometimes cause blood in the vomiting due to irritation of the stomach and esophagus. Your vet can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine what is causing the bloody vomit, and get Snowflake started on appropriate treatment for the problem right away.

I suspect Pumpkin's appetite was decreased because the toothpick was passing through the intestines and was causing abdominal discomfort. You should continue to monitor Pumpkin at home for the next 24-48hrs. If he starts to vomit, becomes lethargic, anorexic or if he starts to struggle to pass stools, you should take him to your local vets right away as these symptoms would suggest gastrointestinal obstruction.
