My cat ate a toothpick, found it in poop. Should I worry about him?

Cats do definitely eat strange things sometimes! Since it sounds like your kitty has vomited up the toothpick and both are acting normal right now, I wouldn't be too concerned. If either of them starts to show any signs of a problem, like not eating, acting lethargic, or continued vomiting, then it would be best to take the affected cat in to the vet for an exam.

I'd just keep an eye on Max for now. If you see blood in his stool or other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet. Otherwise, he should be fine.

I am concerned that the toothpick may have become lodged somewhere along the GI tract. This could lead to serious problems so I would recommend having him seen sooner rather than later.

I would worry about the blood in Spot's vomit. Toothpicks are sharp and you worry about one of them punching a hole in the stomach. I would recommend to take her into the veterinarian asap. They will prescribe medications to coat her stomach. I would also advise to feed her bread for the next 2 days as the bulk may help to cover any tooth picks and hopefully prevent further damage. If she continues to vomit blood, she may need a surgery or endoscopic exam to exam her stomach. I hope Spot is ok!

This will of course take 24-48 hours to be determined. You can monitor her closely for clinical symptoms that could indicate an obstruction such as nausea (lip smacking, decreased appetite and/or drooling), vomiting, inappetence, lethargy and/or abdominal pain. If you see any of those clinical symptoms, have her evaluated by a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, if she is acting normal, it is ok to continue to monitor her for now. A wooden stick might pass without any problems but could also cause irritation to the stomach and intestines or even a perforation. You would see decreased appetite, vomiting or diarrhea as symptoms of a problem. If you see any of these signs you should see a vet right away for an exam and x-rays.

Watch for vomiting, lethargy and not wanting to eat. check his stools with gloves for the piece of bag so you know when to not worry. If he gets sick then he should be seen by a Vet. Good luck
