Why is my dog vomiting solid food after recovering from parvo?

Hello. It does sometimes take time for the gut to heal after a bad bout of Parvo, & 11 days of treatment says to me this was a tough one. Continue to fed Pluto, but you might want to switch to an intestinal diet or one made for sensitive stomachs & skin. I would try feeding pretty small amounts frequently, rather than 2-3 larger meals a day. Even a tablespoon or two every hour or so might be tolerated better. If your Pluto was not under the care of a vet for this, I would also be concerned about concurrent intestinal parasites, so a good deworming may be necessary. If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.

If Alexaander has been treated for parvovirus recently it is concerning that he is still vomiting. Sometimes dogs with parvovirus can develop an intussusception, which is a condition where the intestine folds in on itself causing an obstruction. This could cause diarrhea to stop while vomiting continues. Severe dehydration could also cause this. I would recommend a recheck with the vet who initially treated Alexaander: they may recommend some tests like an x-ray or additional treatment to control nausea and correct dehydration.

I would not recommend residing the medication since it is impossible to know how much he may have absorbed. You may want to ask your vet if injectable medications might be an option, or if there are other anti-nausea medications to try. I’m hoping Charlie makes a full recovery!

I am so sorry to hear that Sweety isn’t feeling well. Certainly bacterial infectionor a parasitic infection could be possible. However I would most concerned about a problem called intussusception which is a serious problem where the intestines telescope on themselves and cause an obstruction. I would not expect a dog to continue to vomit after it has finished medication for a parasite, so I would recommend contacting your veterinarian to let them know that Oreo is still vomiting and see what they would recommend next for him. It sounds like Luna has made a pretty impressive recovery from her Parvo diagnosis, and you did a great job caring for her at home. Since she is doing so well with her currently therapy plan, I would continue her medications for the proper length of time as indicated by your veterinarian. I would not recommend stopping any medication earlier than prescribed, as this can sometimes cause dog's clinical signs to reappear. If you have any specific questions about the medications prescribed for Luna, I recommend contacting the veterinarian who prescribed them to see if he/she would like you to continue them for longer than originally prescribed. Otherwise, as long as Luna is otherwise healthy and acting normally at home, I would not be concerned. I hope this is helpful!
