My dog vomited blood and water. What should I do if I can't afford a vet?

Shorty and crew are cute! If it was just one episode of vomiting, and Shorty seems fine otherwise, I would not panic. If the vomiting continues, or if Shorty does not want to eat, or starts having diarrhea or acting poorly, I'd be concerned. Sometimes vomiting can cause a small amount of throat irritation and blood in the vomit. Large amounts of blood in the vomit are much more concerning.

He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer Noah boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If the bloody diarrhea does not resolve, you will have to find a way to take him to the vet to get treatment.

If it was the one episode of vomiting and he is otherwise acting normally then I would be concerned but not panicked. I would watch him for the next 24 hours to see what happens. As a general approach, in case the cause is dietary related, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. If it was a one time instance, then yes, it should be OK to just watch him right now. I do think he should see a vet for sure if it happens again - bloody vomit is not a good sign. Vomiting and decreased appetite could be caused by a number of things, including parasites, diet changes, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, food sensitivity/allergy, decreased pancreatic function, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please take Leo back to the vet as it seems as though his condition has worsened. He will need more care to help him, as vomiting blood can be a sign of serious illness, and low blood sugar and dehydration from not eating and drinking can be very dangerous.
