My dog threw up a bug. What if he has stomach worms or parasites?

That does not look like a normal intestinal worm. Intestinal worms are white or light yellow. I suspect this is something he ate. Wrap it up in a baggie and take it to be examined by your veterinarian. To be safe, have the store checked for worms since some rooms can be spread to humans. I agree that it is likely vomit and not poop. The Long object could be a worm, but also resembles a plant stem to me. Since she was eating grass I suspect she could have also been consuming other plant materials. I would, however, recommend that you take a poop sample to your veterinarian to have it tested for parasite eggs to make sure that she doesn’t need any medications. Oh no, poor Vegas! Worms that resemble maggots, or grains of rice, are most commonly tapeworm segments. These can be acquired by ingesting either rodents or fleas infected with tapeworms. It would be ideal to take Vegas to her vet for an exam and stool sample analysis to more precisely determine the cause of these worms. However, since she is acting normally and has not had further vomiting, you can consider deworming her with over the counter deworming medication containing praziquantel. Also be sure that she is receiving a high quality flea preventative regularly, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

There is a parasite called giardia that can be transferred by eating bird poop. It is a 1 celled parasite, and not a worm. It tends to cause more diarrhea then vomiting , but can cause both. I would recommend taking a poop sample to your veterinarian. If Fluffy continues to vomit then I would recommend an x-Ray to look for the possibility that she swallowed an object. I believe she snarfed a bunch of grubs.....a snack so to speak, without chewing. There is no stomach bot that would look like that , so she had to have eaten them. It should not be a problem other than that you should watch what she picks up when frolicking in your yard....grubs are no problem, but dead stuff would be. Vomiting/regurgitating is a function of the body ensuring that the dog can get rid of what he does not need, what bothers it. So apparently the grubs where activating the pressure receptors in Coco's stomach which promptly went into action and made her regurgitate the offending fare.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but if they are round and "spaghetti-like", they are probably roundworms. Most over the counter dewormers can take care of roundworms, however your vet can also prescribe deworming medications, and you can bring in a sample of them to your vet if needed to be identified in person.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is not possible to know this just based on a picture. My best guess is that these could be foreign objects (not worms) or worms. I recommend that you have Mishu evaluated by a veterinarian to work the vomiting as this may be due to worms for instance, or something else like a gastrointestinal foreign body, among other possibilities.
