Why is my dog uncomfortable with other dogs sniffing his rear end?

If Buddy has had any changes in his urination habits, or if he is licking at himself a lot, take him to the vet to make sure he doesn't have a skin infection in the area, a urinary tract problem, or any other issue that may be making the other dogs especially interested in his penis. If Buddy gets a clean bill of health, though, unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do to regulate the behavior of other dogs. Keep Buddy distracted with a ball or other toy, and just keep moving. Dogs will often sniff each other's rears in an attempt to gain valuable (to them) information about each other. Your dog may be doing this to you out of curiosity of what you're like! If he is being too rude it is best to simply get up and stop giving him attention. He'll quickly learn the behavior doesn't get him anywhere, while sitting nicely or performing other behaviors gets him attention!

This may be in the skin per se or possibly in the anal sac region. I would recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There can be multiple reasons for a dog to suddenly act clingy: fear, separation anxiety, and medical conditions. Medical conditions could be: pain, anal gland issues, fleas, overall nausea from kidney or liver disease, brain tumor or as some dogs age they develop cognitive dysfunction or doggie dementia. If Snicker's behavior persists then I recommend an exam and possibly blood work be done by your Vet. Sadly his symptoms are non-specific and can mean many different things. It might mean that the Chihuahua has an unusual or interesting odor in this area, which could be due to an anal gland infection, vaginal infection, or active heat cycle. It could also just be your dog's way of being friendly, although this kind of interaction is often seen as "rude" by other dogs.

Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. He may be shivering and whimpering because of discomfort. The vomiting could be due to systemic illness or infection. The sooner he is seen by a veterinarian the better.
