Why is my old dog shaking, whimpering, and getting sick after dinner?

If Buddy seems off and is whimpering and vomiting, he may have something going on causing him discomfort. Because of his age, I would be suspicious of a viral infection, something he ate that he is having an indiscretion to or a foreign object he ate that is lodged somewhere in his intestines causing problems. Because there are multiple causes and it is difficult to determine what it is for sure, I would have a veterinarian examine Buddy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would consider having his blood tested and abdominal x-rays taken. I hope this helps and that Buddy gets better soon! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bobo! He is so cute in his bed! It sounds like Bobo is experiencing periodic stomach pains. The noises you hear is likely gas moving through his intestines. Gas can be painful. When dogs are in pain they shake, don't want to move and whimper. Possible causes are: viral or bacterial infection, reaction to a new food/treat/table food, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, kidney or liver problems, food allergy or intolerance or cancer. Since Bobo is older I do recommend having him seen Monday when your Vet opens for blood work and belly X-rays. In the mean time I would start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. I wish you and Bobo the best!

If she is unvaccinated for distemper, I would potentially consider this as a possibility but in older animals, distemper is not commonly seen. She may be uncomfortable from something (painful) or an infection / systemic disease. If adjusting the temperature to keep her warm does not help, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may be dehydrated from the vomiting and the shivering may not be due to her being cold but may be due to her not feeling well. The signs that you are seeing may be due to a variety of factors, including nausea/GI upset, pain, an infection (such as uterine), or another underlying medical issue. I would recommend she be evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for her symptoms, have any necessary testing done (xrays, bloodwork), and get started on any treatment she may need. My advice is to have Snoopy evaluated with her veterinarian very soon so she can be examined and tested for organ issues, gastrointestinal obstruction, and/or infection that could be underlying. She may need blood work and x-rays or other diagnostic tests to help understand what is causing her symptoms.

There are a wide variety of health problems that can cause shaking/crying and decreased appetite. Pain or discomfort from a number of health problems could cause the shaking and crying. Decreased appetite may be due to pain or can be due to nausea from any number of health issues such as orthopedic conditions, organ dysfunction, infections, autoimmune diseases, toxins, or certain types of cancers. Due to the variety of possibilities in this case, I would highly recommend Fido be seen by his veterinarian right away for an evaluation. He may need blood work and/or x-rays to help determine a cause so he can get appropriately treated. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and Fido!
