Why is my dog twitching, wobbling, and acting strange after waking?

I'm sorry to hear that Oscar isn't feeling well. The symptoms you describe are very concerning to me. It may be that he has a neurologic disease, or (especially if he's older) he may a tumor which has started to cause some internal bleeding. Though his gums are pink, this is still possible. Is there any chance he got into something in terms of a possible toxin? If he will get up and walk to you, and he responds to his name each time, and will eat and drink; it is reasonable to wait until morning if you don't have a vet emergency center near you. If he is unable to rise on his own, if he won't respond to his name, if he's vomiting, seems painful, or if he seems to be getting worse at all, please seek an emergency veterinarian. Certainly sounds like Tony is experiencing some sort of neurologic episode. While a toxin can definitely cause sudden neurological symptoms, so can inflammatory and infectious conditions, trauma, and some circulatory issues. Though Tony sounds pretty stable, I would not hesitate long in taking him to the veterinarian. There may be other clinical signs that are less obvious to you that require intervention. Poor Shaggy. It sounds like it could be a few possible things. A toxin? Got in to a medication? Marijuana? Low blood sugar? Some other neurologic condition. Hard to say. But this could be serious. With these signs I recommend going to the ER. Also check all over the house for anything Shaggy could have gotten in to!

If Browny is only doing this movement when he is sleeping, then it likely is in response to dreams that he is having. Dogs dream, and they can twitch and move their mouth while they are having their dreams. I've seen one of my dogs bark in her sleep and move her legs like she is chasing something. As for being wobbly, that could be can be an early sign of spinal cord disease, due to an ear infection, or a drop in blood glucose from not eating. I would monitor Browny for now, and if you do notice more episodes of him being wobbly, then I would have him seen by a vet for a health check.

Is he running into things around the house? He could be suffering from some blindness which can make them hypersensitive to anyone coming around their face. If this is all of the sudden, it could be due to high blood pressure and I would have your vet check him out to see if he needs to be on any blood pressure meds. Another possibility is that he may have had a seizure in his sleep which caused the twitching. After a seizure, they can be very hypersensitive to any touch or movement until they snap out of it. If he isn't improving, I would definitely have your vet take a look at him to see if there is anything else going on. If he doesn't snap out of it suddenly, then I would believe even more than it was likely a seizure. I would call your vet and talk to them about the seizure. Your vet will likely recommend a panel of bloodwork to ensure there isn't anything metabolically wrong that could have caused a seizure. I would recommend to start a seizure log which records the date, time and what he did during and after the seizure. If these episodes begin to happen often then I would contact your vet about this as well. I hope this helps!

Hi, sorry to hear Andre is not feeling well. This can be a seizure or a syncopal event, where the heart is not performing how it should be. Syncope is more often seen as fainting or loosing all their energy quickly, then they feel normal again. A seizure can look like shaking, with a post ictal event where he may act like he is off balance and unsure of his surroundings. I suggest taking him to a vet to have his heart checked and blood work to see how his organs are functioning. If possible, video the episode so you can show the vet.
