Why is my dog twitching? Is it heat exhaustion or distemper?

If she is unvaccinated for distemper, I would potentially consider this as a possibility but in older animals, distemper is not commonly seen. She may be uncomfortable from something (painful) or an infection / systemic disease. If adjusting the temperature to keep her warm does not help, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. That is unlikely to be related to distemper but could be completely normal (due to fatigue or involuntary movements before sleeping). From the picture I noticed he may have skin disease (there multifocal bald red patches). This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Hello. Unfortunately, Bans is showing petite or mild seizures due to his distemper diagnosis. These may either improve or worsen as time goes on. Twitching and being unable to sleep is concerning for a possible toxin ingestion (moldy bread/cheese/food, snail bait, etc.), seizures, a problem in the brain, and sometimes they can get a condition where they twitch when they try to move. Not drinking water is concerning because it means that Jeannie is either unable to drink from the twitching, or feels nauseous and doesn't want to drink. I would recommend bringing her to a vet right away. They can give medications to help the twitching, and can also treat any dehydration with IV fluids. I'm sorry to hear Joe is having an issue! Certainly must have been scary for you and him! It's impossible to say what caused this in Joe, but I'm concerned that this could have been a seizure. I'd strongly recommend taking Joe to see a veterinarian right away as seizures can be caused by a number of things including toxin exposure. It could have also been due to a respiratory or heart issue. Either cause is serious and requires emergency veterinary attention. Dizziness and nausea could be caused by several different things. First, I would ensure that there was nothing out of the ordinary Jasper could have gotten into (like people food or treats) as that could upset his tummy. If he recovered from this episode uneventfully you could keep an eye on him for the next few hours and see how he does. If there's more vomiting, disorientation or seizure like behavior (like trembling or convulsions) I would take him in to see your vet. They may want to run some lab work to make sure everything is ok. Good luck!

Poor Jax. Unfortunately if he does have distemper, it is highly fatal and the fact that it has progressed to the neurological stage is not good. Should he have distemper and he has these symptoms, the prognosis likely isn't good, I'm sorry.
