Why is my puppy having seizures and peeing uncontrollably? Distemper?

I am so sorry to hear that her disease has progressed. Unfortunately if distemper starts to cause neurological symptoms then it is unlikely that she will recover. Typically seizure activity will follow in the near future. I am so sorry to relay this poor prognosis. However, every patient is different and there is always a chance of improvement. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Distemper can cause upper respiratory, GI and neurological signs. If Jasper has been completely and properly vaccinated, meaning completed his puppy series and is up to date then it is unlikely he has distemper. Dogs twitch for many reasons, a lot of them are normal. If he isn't eating well, breathing heavily, feels warm, starts vomiting or having diarrhea or is lethargic then I would take him in for a recheck. If your Vet is concerned about distemper then they can send out the appropriate tests. I hope this helps and I wish Jasper the very best!

It's a bit hard to say, but this sounds like seizure activity, especially with the periods of confusion you're describing after the episodes occur. In a 4 year old dog I'd be concerned about epilepsy, although other possibilities such as a poisoning and brain tumors should be considered as well. Roscoe needs to see his vet ASAP in order to find out what is going on, and start treatment. If these are seizures, the longer they go undiagnosed and uncontrolled, the more likely he will have one that he won't come out of. Get him seen ASAP.

It sounds like she is very sick. Several days of no urine means either severe dehydration or kidney failure (which could cause similar symptoms). Without sending in sample to a diagnostic lab, there is no way to determine if this is Distemper or something else. She desperately needs to see a vet for IV treatment and diagnostics. The very least you can do is continue the LRS - you can't give too much in this case.

It is common for small breed dogs to have disc disease in the neck or back which is excruciatingly painful. His veterinarian will examine and determine if either of these scenarios are possible for him or if he has another problem. In the meantime, keep him quiet and carry him if necessary. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Hello. Unfortunately, Bans is showing petite or mild seizures due to his distemper diagnosis. These may either improve or worsen as time goes on. I am very sorry your new dog came with a distemper infection. Unfortunately this virus is notoriously unpredictable and whether your dog will develop any neurological signs and when will depend on the strain of the virus.
