Why is my dog twitching like his heartbeat when he's awake?

That sounds concerning for something like a seizure or a cardiac arrhythmia. Both would cause Romy to lose control of his body and then still be off for a few minutes afterwards. I recommend to make an appointment to have him checked. The doctor will need to run bloodwork and an EKG to look for potential causes. Poor pup. Muscle twitches in a pet so young can be caused by a toxin ingestion, a metabolic imbalance (i.e. Low calcium), an underlining neurological disorder, or it can just be a sign of pain somewhere in the body. If the muscle twitches are happening for more than a few hours then it is best to take Chevy to you nearest veterinarian for a complete neurological examination so that he receives the appropriate treatment. At the very least they can give him muscle relaxers to help with his symptoms and then any pain medication he may need. I hope your puppy gets well soon. Best wishes and good luck at the vet.

Trembling is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If Chuchay is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor her for now. However, if at any point she appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Idiopathic head tremors is a condition that has been noted in several breeds but can occur in any breed. There is no known cause for the tremors and the disease is called idiopathic for this reason. I would monitor for now and if these tremors increase in frequency or intensity, I would recommend having Lacey examined by a veterinarian for further testing and to discuss the potential causes based on the physical examination. I would highly recommend taking KyCzar in to your vet to have him evaluated. Baseline bloodwork will likely be recommended and perhaps even a referral to a neurologist, if you wish to pursue further treatment and work-up. Is he running into things around the house? He could be suffering from some blindness which can make them hypersensitive to anyone coming around their face. If this is all of the sudden, it could be due to high blood pressure and I would have your vet check him out to see if he needs to be on any blood pressure meds. Another possibility is that he may have had a seizure in his sleep which caused the twitching. After a seizure, they can be very hypersensitive to any touch or movement until they snap out of it. If he isn't improving, I would definitely have your vet take a look at him to see if there is anything else going on. If he doesn't snap out of it suddenly, then I would believe even more than it was likely a seizure. I would call your vet and talk to them about the seizure. Your vet will likely recommend a panel of bloodwork to ensure there isn't anything metabolically wrong that could have caused a seizure. I would recommend to start a seizure log which records the date, time and what he did during and after the seizure. If these episodes begin to happen often then I would contact your vet about this as well. I hope this helps!

Hello. Furosemide is a diuretic & benazepril is a vasodilator, both of which are used to help deal with the effects of CHF. A twitch is generally not a side effect of either these two medications. This does sound a bit like a condition called synchronous diaphragmatic flutter or Thumps. Mostly this is a benign, idiopathic condition that often goes away on its own, but I would report it to your vet in case he may want to look at Lily's electrolytes like calcium, phosphorous & possibly even her parathyroid hormone levels.
