Why is my puppy's legs twitching, whining, restless, and can't sleep?

Muscles twitches can be caused by weakness or neurological problems affecting long nerves which are supplying legs and peripheral muscles in general. Unfortunately without having a look at her it is really difficult to be able to provide a more specific advice. Given her young age an infective or congenital cause is possible and I would strongly recommend a check up to be able to understand and investigate this sign. She could have a calcium deficiency from nursing the pups and being so young and small herself. If the twitching continues or her condition deteriorates then please take her in immediately since this condition can cause seizures and become life threatening very quickly. It could be that Ruby overexerted herself during her walk tonight, and now she is feeling a little bit of pain causing her to be in discomfort. You can try gently rubbing her legs if she will let you to see if that helps, or putting some heat in the form of a heat pad (not too hot!) to see if that helps relaxes her muscles. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to puppies and can be fatal if given. As long as she is otherwise normal (i.e. eating and drinking normally, went to the bathroom normally, isn't limping or appears to be in pain), then I wouldn't be too worried about her just yet. Tremors can be due to many different underlying causes and honestly, there are many times we cannot find an underlying cause. If this is a one time thing then I suggest you monitor him and if it happens again, get a video and then make an appointment with your vet. It may never happen again. It is hard for me to comment much without seeing what he is actually doing. My first thought is that it could be a pinched nerve. Other options: * focal seizure * muscle pain/injury * something that is irritating his skin in that area You know him best so if you are truly worried then there is no harm in taking him to your vet now for an exam. It could be a muscle spasm caused by a sprain/strain, neurological disorder, etc. If it continues, have your vet take a look at her to determine if treatment is needed. She may need an anti-inflammatory to treat the problem.

If you have done a thorough check of his leg and are finding nothing wrong with Chief and he is walking on the leg just fine, I would monitor this for now. I have seen this in quite a few puppies and when I examined the puppy further, I found nothing wrong and it resolved on its own. If Chief begins to show signs of pain / discomfort, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It looks like Chief is about 12 weeks of age, so at this age he still needs to go through the remainder of his puppy vaccinations. At his next vaccination appointment, I would discuss this further with the examining veterinarian. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. It sounds like Charlie has a bunch of problems at the moment. Twitching during sleep can be normal, as dogs dream and can move in response to those dreams. But the weak back legs, walking limpy, and sitting crooked isn't normal. He also could have puppy pyoderma causing the pimple. You need to take him into a vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.
