My Shih Tzu is tired, peeing hot, and ate human food. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 10 days old | 10 lbs

You My 8 month old female shih tzu has being acting sluggish and tired. She was laying down on the rug when she suddenly jumped up on me and my bed laid down and peed on herself, her pee was extremely hot that it even burned me. I found this very shocking and am hoping it is nothing to worry about. Unfortunately she has also been eating house food, can this have an affect too?

She can have a few different things going on. She can have a urinary tract infection or she may have an upset stomach from eating human food. I recommend calling your veterinarian in the morning and having a physical examination performed to see what is going on. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

    Poor Sofy! I agree, it sounds like she definitely isn't feeling well for some reason. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any type of illness or injury. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam - he/she can do some diagnostic testing if needed to help determine what's wrong and get her started on appropriate treatment to help her feel better.

Cookie is quite the cutie! I'm sorry she's feeling a bit off. With those very general symptoms, I would recommend keeping an eye on her and taking her to the vet tomorrow if she doesn't go back to normal. If she started vomiting, has white gums, doesn't want to move around at all, or seems uncomfortable, then I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic for evaluation. She sounds pretty sick, and I'm concerned she isn't eating or drinking, having diarrhea, and has now vomited. If she isn't fully vaccinated, parvo could be causing her symptoms. Sa sounds very sick, and unfortunately this cannot be treated at home if he's not eating and drinking, and has not peed or pooped in two days. Vets should be available for emergencies, and this counts as an emergency. Please call around to local vets to find someone to see him now.

You really need to consider having her evaluated by a veterinarian because we are totally unable to diagnose her infection nor prescribe any antibiotics or medications that she might need. Hi, she is so beautiful and does not look her age at all. I wonder if she is feeling a bit anxious as she seems to settle when wrapped up. The increased thirst and urination needs investigating through a blood sample. Try to tempt her to eat and to keep her comfortable. Hope this helps and that she feels better soon.

Why is my 8-week-old Shih Tzu puppy suddenly lethargic but seems fine?
It's good that Bella isn't having diarrhea, and a light yellow color is the normal color of urine. It could be that she simply isn't feeling well today, or she could have played a lot yesterday and is very tired at the moment. I would monitor her for now. and make sure she is still eating, drinking, and going potty normally. Should she still be lethargic after 48 hours, then I would take her into the vet.
