My Shih Tzu has a chronic UTI, panting, and bloated. What to do?

She can have a few different things going on. She can have a urinary tract infection or she may have an upset stomach from eating human food. She may indeed have a UTI, but also a slipped disc in her spine could make urination painful, or bladder stones. Since not being able to urinate can be a life threatening condition and cause kidney damage, it is very important that you take Leeloo to your veterinarian ASAP, ie this is an emergency. Please call your vet now.

Sa sounds very sick, and unfortunately this cannot be treated at home if he's not eating and drinking, and has not peed or pooped in two days. Vets should be available for emergencies, and this counts as an emergency. Please call around to local vets to find someone to see him now.

Poor Layla. We will commonly see panting associated with pain or discomfort. If she is on antibiotics for a UTI this could be from bladder discomfort if her UTI has not resolved, GI discomfort from the antibiotics or something unrelated. If her clinical signs from her UTI are improved, then it would make it less likely that is causing a problem, but it is still a possibility. It might not be a bad idea to have your veterinarian check another urine sample on her to make sure that her UTI is resolving. That may be the first step in trying to figure out what is going on with her. I would closely monitor her appetite and stools as well. Good luck! Hi, she is so beautiful and does not look her age at all. I wonder if she is feeling a bit anxious as she seems to settle when wrapped up. The increased thirst and urination needs investigating through a blood sample. Try to tempt her to eat and to keep her comfortable. Hope this helps and that she feels better soon.

Princess likely is suffering from a urinary tract infection or possibly bladder stones, or other condition that causes bleeding of the urinary tract. This may be very painful. You will need to take Princess to a veterinarian for an exam and urinalysis. Your vet may also want to take radiographs to rule out bladderstones. She will need prescription antibiotics, pain medicine, and other treatment depending on the diagnosis. Please check her gums, and should they be white or very pale in colour, she will need to be seen by a vet right away.
