My dog has low energy after a tick. Could it be a tick-borne disease?

When I was reading Rudi's issues my first thought was a tick borne disease such as Lyme. A tick borne disease or autoimmune disease are both highly likely. A 4dx test or tick panel should be run to see if that is what is what is causing his symptoms.

Those are ticks. You can purchase a tick preventative at a veterinary clinic. If your dog has a lot of ticks, that can make him anemic (ticks suck blood from dogs and that is why they are attached to the skin). Dogs can also become sick with “tick fever” from ticks. This can include lymes dz, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis. Anemia and tick fever can make your dog lethargic. A veterinarian can examine him and run some bloodwork to see if he has anemia or tick fever. Also, if he is covered in ticks, a dip will help get rid of them. I recommend you take him to see a vet as soon as possible to get rid of the ticks and have him examined.

Rocky is very handsome! It is possible he contracted a tick-borne disease when the tick was attached. I recommend taking him back to the vet to run some blood work and find out why he isn't feeling well. If they find the cause, they can start medications to help him feel better. I'm sorry Holly is so sick! A dog's temperature is normally 101-102.5, so she doesn't have a fever. If you have removed a lot of ticks from her in the past, her symptoms of being very tired, sore, and not wanting to move can be indicative of a tick born disease such as Lyme disease. I would have her seen by a vet right away. The vet can diagnose if she does have lyme disease, another tick borne disease, or something else causing her symptoms and can treat her for it. If she did have Lyme disease, for example, it can be treated with a course of doxycycline.

Given that the tick is not engorged, it did not feed her on, so no disease would have been transmitted. The tick needs to bite and feed to pass along disease into her bloodstream. I imagine she is quite tired from her busy day. To be safe, watch for continued lethargy, limping, joint swelling, and a loss of appetite. I hope this helps!

I would take Cyfer into the vet immediately, as it sounds like he is suffering from a tick borne illness. He needs medical attention right away, and the vet can use blood tests to diagnose if he's suffering from a tick borne illness and treat him accordingly.

Depending on when you found the ticks on Harley would be important in determining whether or not the clinical signs you are seeing have anything to do with one another. Many of the most common tick borne diseases in the area of the country in which you live have very long incubation periods. In other words, from the time the infection was spread, it might take weeks to months for Harley to actually experience the symptoms which you are reporting. Anaplasma, a tickborne illness, can begin to show clinical signs within days of the bite. The other two most common ones in the northeast (lyme and ehrlichia) how much longer incubation periods. Regardless, if Harley has not been acting right at such a young age and refusing to move at a normal rate I would still be concerned that something could be wrong. I would not necessarily rush off to the vet tonight, but would consider making an appointment for some time soon. In the mean time, consider taking her temperature to see if it is elevated above normal. Anything about 102.5-103.0 would be concerning for a dog sitting comfortably at home.
