My dog found a tick. Is it causing her severe symptoms like shaking?

Poor girl. Certainly tick borne disease can cause vomiting a couple weeks after exposure, but a month seems to be a bit prolonged. Also you would typically see other symptoms too such as limping, low grade fever and a decreased appetite. Other potential causes of vomiting are: stomach upset due to a change in diet, eating something she shouldn’t have, acid reflux disease, or even inflammatory bowel disease just to name a few. if he vomiting continues for more than a day or two, or if she has any more symptoms that you didn’t mention here, then this best to take her in for a complete examination to ensure she is ok. Oh my. It sounds like your pet may be suffering from a tick borne septic arthritis or something similar. Ticks can cause all sorts of internal problems for pets, including damaging the joints and causing low grade fevers and nausea. I would highly advise getting your pets seen by your local vet right away for much needed antibiotics and blood testing to confirm that tick borne disease is present. This will help let us know what other treatments they need to hopefully get better. I would take them in as soon as possible and also get them on a high quality flea/tick preventative such as Simparica, Firstshield, Nexgard or Bravecto. Best of luck with your pets. I'm sorry Holly is so sick! A dog's temperature is normally 101-102.5, so she doesn't have a fever. If you have removed a lot of ticks from her in the past, her symptoms of being very tired, sore, and not wanting to move can be indicative of a tick born disease such as Lyme disease. I would have her seen by a vet right away. The vet can diagnose if she does have lyme disease, another tick borne disease, or something else causing her symptoms and can treat her for it. If she did have Lyme disease, for example, it can be treated with a course of doxycycline.

Poor Tussie! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. She may have a tick-borne disease of some kind (even if she tested negative for Lyme disease, there are many other possibilities), a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or a neurologic disorder of some kind. It sounds like she's been to the vet somewhat recently for heartworm and Lyme disease testing, but I would recommend taking her back for a recheck since it sounds like she still isn't doing well. She needs a complete neurologic exam if she is still acting drunk and having balance issues, as well as a thorough otoscopic exam (possibly under sedation, if needed) since middle/inner ear infections can also cause the symptoms you describe. Blood work and additional testing for tick-borne illnesses may also be helpful if nothing else is found.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to our consultation service. although it is possible to get diarrhea from a tick related disease, it is not common at all. it would be more likely that she has either eaten something that is not agreeing with her or she has a disease or condition unrelated to the tick. If she continues to eat and drink normally as well as wants to play, I would wait for 48 to 72 hours with feeding her regular diet. If after the 72 hours, the diarrhea is still present, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian. If at any point, she starts to act lethargic or vomit, etc., I would take her to the veterinarian as soon as possible so that they can do a physical examination and possibly some diagnostic testing. Hello. These are ticks & ticks can carry some pretty serious diseases. You can not rule out that your dog may also be experiencing true seizures due to epilepsy, but this is a instance where you need to get the ticks off your pet & seriously use a product to keep the ticks off as best you can. It is good that you are aware that ticks can transmit diseases! RMSF as you said and Lyme disease are just two of them. Her behavior may or may not be related to the tick, but since some of these diseases can be lethal, I would recommend taking her (and the tick if you have it) to the vet.
