Why is my dog's tick bite oozing yellow discharge? Is it infected?

If it continues to look superficial (as it looks on the picture), you can consider applying a thin film of triple antibiotic on it in case it is just a mild infection. If it does not resolve within 1 week of starting such treatment, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Hello. Your picture did not come through, but I would definitely err on the side of safety & have your vet look at the tick bite as soon as possible. Just based on what you have written, I would be inclined to prophylactically start Rocky on antibiotics. Continue to topically treat the area until you can have him seen. Based on the photos, it looks like the wound is draining a little, which is a good thing. However, I cannot say with certainty it is not still infected. Given Rumple was just started on antibiotics, he likely needs the full two weeks for it to heal. I would monitor for any pain or swelling in that area, worsening discharge or foul smelling odor or anything else concerning like incompetence, vomiting or diarrhea. If Rumple is otherwise OK, I would say it is fine to continue to monitor him and continue his previously prescribed medication. In fact, I would send these photos to your veterinarian who looked at Rumple two days ago. They would be able to compare the photos and let you know if they think the wound has gotten worse or not. Hi there. It's probably a reaction to the tick bite and may need antibiotics. You can apply triple antibiotic cream to it in the mean time-just don't allow your dog to lick or eat any of it. Probably not an emergency if your pup is otherwise fine! Hope this helps.

This doesn't look like a tick bite, more likely a wasp or bee sting that Milo may have scratched. Please clean it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well, dry the area then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. You can also put a little bit of cortisone cream on it to prevent itching. Please use a restraint collar is needed to prevent Milo from licking it. If it gets bigger, painful or Milo becomes lethargic and not eating then I would recommend a veterinary visit. Hi there, and thank you for posting this question. Ticks produce a lot in inflammation at the site where they feed. It is very common for tick reaction sites to be present for a few weeks.’ During that time it should be receding . However, if Burt is licking or scratching it he may have caused a secondary infection. If there is discharge, foul odor, or if seems to be getting larger rather than smaller then I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mikey! The discharge doesn't look yellow or green so I do not think it is infected...yet. If this is more discharge than he Mikey normally has it could be allergies or the start of a bacterial conjunctivitis or pink eye. Especially if he goes to dog parks or doggie day care. I would make an appointment with your Vet for an evaluation. If warranted they may prescribe an ocular antibiotic drop or ointment. I hope this helps and I wish Mikey a speedy recovery!
