My dog's tick bite is red on Bravecto. Should I see a vet?

No you should not be worried, in order for Bravecto to kill ticks, the ticks have to attach and feed on the dog. After giving Bravecto, it distributes to the tissue fluids just under the skin. When fleas and ticks feed, they ingest Bravecto and die. Bravecto kills 100% of ticks on dogs within 12 hours so it would not be unusual to see some live ticks during the first 12 hours that they attach. Remember to give the medication every 12 weeks.

Keep an eye on it, gently clean/scrub it with mild soap and water (Dawn dish soap can work well), and monitor for swelling or discharge that could signal an infection. Talk to your vet about the tick bite and how Willow is doing; your vet can help you decide if you should test Willow for exposure to tickborne disease. As long as Willow is feeling well, it will probably be fine to vaccinate as planned, and I would definitely recommend keeping Willow protected with Bravecto! Hope this helps!

That may not be a tick, but a small growth. The image is dark, so you would need to have him seen by your veterinarian for confirmation one way or the other. Bravecto is labeled to kill ticks within 12 hours, so if it is still there tomorrow, it probably isn't a tick.

I wouldn't mess with the remaining ticks, as if she's not letting you get them, you could potentially pull off their bodies and leave the heads, which could cause further irritation or infection. If you just gave the Bravecto, give it some time to work - it can take 12 hours to kill ticks that have latched on. If they aren't gone by tomorrow morning, let the vet take a look. This isn't an emergency right now, although it may give you the heebie-jeebies. Good luck, and I hope that Sheba's little friends die quickly!

1 flea bite can make an allergic dog itch for several weeks so you may need medicine to treat the itching while the fleas get under control. You can administer the bravecto at any point when you remove the collar. A good bath will help also

As long as the area on Miley's skin looks okay (no significant redness or swelling), then you don't need to take her to the vet right away after finding an attached tick. If the tick was attached for long enough to transmit disease, like Lyme disease, Ehrlichia or Anaplasma, then it takes about 6 months for a blood test to diagnose an infection. Unfortunately, there are no measures to take to stop any of these diseases if she's already been infected. I would certainly mention this tick attachment to Miley's vet the next time she goes in for an exam because her vet will most likely recommend running a tick-borne disease blood test about 6 months from the date of tick exposure. In the long run, definitely add some tick prevention in for Miley. Seresto collars, K9 Advantix II, Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica or Credelio are all great options to discuss with your vet.
